What do ECC and DIMM mean

i have been shopping for memory these days and i was wondering what the heck ECC and non-ECC means and since im on the subject what does DIMM mean also im sorry but im the kind of person that loves to know everything thanks

ECC - Error checking and correction. An extra module is added to the stick of RAM and checks the integrity of the data. However, due to the checking process, clock for clock, ECC is slower than non-ECC RAM.

DIMM is a stick of RAM. A DIMM slot is where you put a DIMM

like SIMM- Single inline memory module (older ram)
and RIMM- Rambus inline memory module (rambus ram)
(what's SODIMM, the laptop ram?)
