Is there two kinds of memory speeds????

I got an Ati Radeon 8500le from future shop for Chrismas 64mb, after reviewing the posts from this forum, i've discovered that most ppl hv mem speed over or equal to 500, believe it or not, my card's defualt speed is only 230/230. do u think i got screwed???

many of the LEs are made like that....unless it said the speed was 250mhz then you cant do much

ohnestly for the price difference i would suggest for people to get retail radeon 8500 128 meg. and there is more than 2 speed 8500LE's they come in 275/275 250/250 230/230 and in one case 230/166 (crucial :( ) I'm sure i saw one also at 300/300 Special edition i guess.

hey gta3 i just got my video card at futre shop too for only 99 bucks (after rebate 20 bucks instant and sending it) ya i got the same thing as u it says 230for gpu and 230 for mem and 4 ns hynix ram no bga ram tho but on the boxs picture it has bga ram:(

I friend of mine got a card clocked at 230/230 too and it was a retail built by ATi card, we are still trying to get him a better one but so far ATi doesnt seem interested in giving him the card he payed for.

We were both well aware that 3rd party companies clocked their cards slower but we didn't know ATi was doing it too. BTW when you see people with their ram clocked at 500 that means its 250mhz (times 2 cause its DDR), so your ram's effective speed is 460mhz.

When I got my 128MB 8500LE it came stock at 250/250 and it got it much higher than that. :(

All recently built 8500LE are 230/230

Just use an overclocking program and bump it to 250/250 or higher. The LE cards can certainly handle it.
