I'm going to be building a new comp in January, and was looking at ram. I want a 512mb stick, PC2700, and possibly even cas 2, but 2.5 is ok. So what would be the best memory for the money? Would it be some samsung, like this: http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80040

or Geil
http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80058

or crucial
http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80061

or kingston
http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80065-K

or micron
http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80063

So which would be the best buy of them all?The Geil kind of got my attention, but is it the best, also the samsung or crucial look good, but i dunno Is there anything else you would reccomend? . The Ram will be going in a Abit nf7-s(nforce 2) motherboard. I could really use some help here.

thanks,
Kent

Kingston Value Ram PC2700, without doubt. 6ns Winbond chips (ala Corsair XMS PC3200C2) give it ungodly overclock potential. All sticks I have seen used in 845 based systems have achieved 428-436MHz at 2-7-3-3 on a mere 2.65V. $128 at newegg the last time I checked, or your link #4 from googlegear for $127.

I have not tried this stuff on an Nforce2 though. But it is hard for me to believe it won't satisfy you, at least up to the 200MHz fsb level.

DID YOU CHECK OUT OCZ? I`AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY 3 STICKS,GOOD BANG FOR THE BUCK

NP, be aware that some Value Ram sticks are showing up with Samsung chips these days. These don't everclock as well as the Winbond (or Kingston branded equivalent) equipped versions. It's still good (did over 400MHz in the one report I've seen) but doesn't seem to have the 430MHz potential of the other types. Value Ram is cheap, so I guess they use the cheapest chip that will do the job (showing you just how much money Corsair has made off the PC3200C2 stuff...)
