Clean install of win98se yesterday with DX 8.1 / dets 40.72's / coolbits and running an estacy gf3 ti 500.When I go to det properties to check clock speeds for the vid card it is greyed out with no #'s showing.I check the box to overclock and it tells me to restart to test it but when I reboot there is still no clock speed showing. Its like it cant detect it.I have used 40.72's and dx 8 before format and had no problems overclocking.I reformatted in this order os/chipset drivers/dx 8.1 then dets.Any ideas on this?

I have read the NEW detonator drivers HAVE the overclock option as standard.

I cannot confirm this as i am at work :(

I'm using winfox from leadtek for me.
I can find my clock speed under winfast information
using speedrunner to o/c

still using det 41.09 not the drivers from leadtek
the only adjustments I could see were generic quality/performance?

Does your vid card manufacturer offer tweaking tools?

I think you gotta set that overclock option up with nvtweak or something, I forget the name, but uh it should be a posssible thing in your advanced settings.

Clock tab is there but when I check box to allow oc'ing and it ask to restart it reboots but does not show the default speeds which are 240/500.I can then move the sliders but it goes from 0 to 100 mhz on both instead of starting at 240/500 like it did before the reformat.I set sliders to 20 mhz thinking maybe that it would go to 260/520 but when I tested it it garbled the screen.

Well after messing with dif stuff for 3 days I come to think coolbits does not work with 40.72's and dx 8.1.I am not sure why it worked before, maybe left over files from previous dets.

aha.

Same thing happened on my bro's computer. Apparently, Coolbits only works when it was used on older drivers that were upgraded.

Just use powerstrip or rivatuner or something.

Does RT or PS let you reset settings back to default if you want to uninstall it?

I am a newbie to this kind of forum and I just tried RivaTuner on my TI4200 and it works, If I can do it, anyone can.

Had tried X-setup and it worked fine, then installed the 41.09 drivers and could not get it to work at all.

Gave it a try and its a good program.A few to many settings but clocked card to 260/550 and gained 242 pionts on 3dmark,locked at 270/570.Well I unistalled it and used regcleaner to clean it from the registry. There were 4 or 5 entries in the hkeyRoot directory that were not mentioned of in rivatuner forum on 3dguru.com.Now for the weirdest part of all this,I put coolbits back in to gain the vsycn tabs back and low and behold the clock speeds are now showing and I can again overclock the card with coolbits.I reset everything back to default before uninstalling rivatuner but it seems it some how turned the overclocking feature back on in the det 40.72's.Someone want to throw some ideas out on why this took place?

i always had the same problem with windows 98 and the coolbits tweak. i never understood why but it wouldn't tell mewhat clock speed i had. i just stopped using it because it was just as easy to do with powerstrip and i like the fact that you can set a performance level to use only when certain programs are running and then drop it down when just surfing the web or whatever. i play a lot of video games and i just set it to use performance when i open the game and it does it. gotta love that.... but as for the coolbits thing. i never got it sorted out
sorry
