Ok, very dumb question.
With the 41.09 dets there is now a slider for performance with the options: Applications, Balanced, Aggresive.
Where should this be? Is Aggressive mean better quality but less performance orrrr hows it work?
Thanks!

I think it should be in the middle. If you slide it to aggresive, then you'll drop the performance. I moved it to aggresive then ran 3dmark test. The score droped.
Mike
If you slide it to the agressive you have better performance

I installed the 41.09 drivers and 2001SE benchmark went from 9160 to 9890.
Question is: Where do you find the sliders you are referring to on the 41.09 dets?
gigabyte ga7-VRXP
xp2000+

256 Mb PC2700 Kingston 333 Ram

You will find the slider in the performance and quality settings.

Hmm, it really depends on whether "aggressive" means "aggressive timings", i.e., made to run the most quickly, or "aggressive" as in "aggressive features", i.e., all the features are turned on to give the highest picture quality (but most likely at a cost to performance.)
Only way to test that is to run some apps, take a look at the antialiasing and such, and run benchmarks. -- Paul

Now, where do I find the performance and quality settings?
Are you using another program for that?

right-click the desktop, choose properties, settings, advanced, and browse through those options.
Oh, I just downloaded and installed the 41.09 drivers. They were the most truly awful drivers I have ever used. Quake III slowed to maybe a frame per second (Actually, the opening movie and movement through the menus was jerky like that), and it put strange black/blank spots on my start menu. I went back to the 23.11 drivers.
Anybody else have bad experiences with the new drivers? -- Paul

Well that depends.
If they are supose to keep your monitor on standby...then no. But if they are supose to make your vid card better then ever...well, yes yes i did  had a hell of a time getting it back too...

well i'm also wondering if it's because i felt the need to upgrade to dx 9...in which case i would have a hard time dealing with the fact that older drivers handle new tech better...
doesnt matter, i'm back in working order ;-)

If you're on DX9 maybe you should go to http://www.guru3d.com/files/ and navigate to the detonator drivers and check out the ones that are DX9 compatabile.

Hmm, I'm currently on DX8.1. Don't see much reason to download DX9 over 56K at the moment ... Guess I'll stick with my trusty 23.11. Thanks for bringing up the points on DX, etc. That may well have been it.

application: use this setting to ensure that the driver strictly adheres to all aplication requests
balanced: use this setting to get the best comprimiize bettween the aplication requests and performance.
agressive: use this setting to achive the highest aplication performance
you can see this is you right click on them and click "whats this?"
