View Full Version : People who bought 9700 pro/9700/9500 pro, whats your experience with the card?

I was just thinking about the 9700 pro I got...about four months ago I think.

I would have to say, that it was one of the best purchases I've made. Even tho it cost $350 I think it will last me 2+ years and the enjoyment I get from the absolutly stuning graphics in games like Dark Age of Camelot (SI) make it worth every penny.

In addition, when DX9 is supported by games the 9700 pro will be ready for them.

I just think it was one of the best purchases I've made and one of the few I never second guess.

How do you feel about yours?

Very happy with the purchase of my 9500 Pro. I bought a BBA oem for $285 Canadian (180 US) and I don't regret it at all.

I am actually gonna play some RTCW right now , but first I am gonna give the new omega drivers a whirl.

Question for you, what drivers are you using and do you have DX9 installed.

I have the Cat 3.0 and DX9.

I like mine alot. All my games can be played at 1280x1024 with high details and I really like how it supports DX9 therefore it won't necessarily need to be upgraded any time soon. It may have cost me $300 but that's what I paid for my Ti4600 8 months ago. This card should last me a lot longer.

Just got my 9500 Pro in the mail today from Newegg :) And it is sweet, especially with the new omega drivers :)

Now I just need a 19'' monitor to play my games at 1600x1200 :( Anybody know where to get one for 25 bucks? jk

But seriously, what are some good, cheap 19'' monitors?

NEC FE990 under $300 shipped at Newegg.

Where can I get these Omega drivers? They're not the same as the Catalyst 3.0 right? My Sapphire could use a kick in the pants :)

U can get the Omega drivers at www.omegacorner.com and they arent exactly the same. Omega tweaks the drivers for better image quality, and better game performance. And for the Catalyst 3.0s, he took the DX coding of the Cat 3.0s, and the OpenGL coding of the Cat 2.5s, to eliminate the OpenGL problems ppl were having

*edit* Oh, and i love my 9500 Pro :D

When I first got the Dark Age of Camelot expansion I got hard lock ups every time I logged in. At that time I had the Beta DX9 and the beta Cat drivers that went with it. So I rolled back to the Cat 2.5 drivers and DX8.1 and it was running great until a few days ago. I was getting the hard lock ups again, which are probably problems with the expansion, but I went ahead and loaded up the official DX9 and the new omega drivers. It was a day later, but no more hard locks and everything has run picture perfect since I installed them (not that the other drivers weren't, I only had the one problem and I think its a problem with the game).

Anyway, getting to the point, I think DX9 with the Omega drivers is just as stable if not more then the Cat. 2.5 drivers.

Now I'm off to check out that new demo. You know my favorite kind of graphics...pornographics! I hope she's naked:p

I got my 9700 Pro and when i got the DX9 and Cat3.0 it blow my mind on how great it is... I mean I love that I spent that much for it I hope theres tons of games for it... and is that why the production of games has slowed down because of 9X and the other jumble of stuff comeing out?

I have a 9700 pro and loving every second of it. I've had some problems with some games, but overall it's an excellent card.
With some tweaks here and there, I was able to get 16500 in 3dmark2001se at 3061mhz cpu with 150fsb.

All the games look fantastic! Although there aren't many new games out to play these days. Current games I'm into:

Counter-Strike
Vietcong Demo (this rocks!)
Splintercell Demo (o.m.g!)

One thing I do not like however, is that this card does not support 1600x1200@100Hz. So I'm not really taking full advantage of my kick-ass monitor. :(

Overall I'd give it a 9 out of 10. 9 because of the dx9 and cat3 issues and some problems in games like drops in fps..etc crap like that.

I got a 9500 Pro for christmas.

Still having some weird problems...I started a thread here (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=151831)...apparently no one else is having this trouble.

3dmark still won't run. It's been a LONG time since I reformatted, and my 20gig drive is almost full to the hilt. So it's very likely a software/registry/something-or-other that's causing it, rather than the card itself. I don't really care, though. My eyes can tell me VERY easily that this card beats the crap out of my old GeForce2. I don't need 3dmark to tell me it's a great card!

Also still having some text garble. It's infrequent, and it never interupts what I'm doing, or makes the text completely unreadable. It's just a nuisance (I paid $200 for this card and it can't do TEXT without errors?!?!?!). Again...this COULD be a software problem, a registry key that the card doesn't like. No way to know without doing a reformat, I guess.

I've had a little trouble getting NOLF2 to run...but that was one of those "19 inches from the monitor" errors, I think. It's running fine now. So far, I've played NOLF2, UT, and UT2k3. Have had no issues whatsoever. No dropped frames, no tearing, no disturbances, no nothing. This card draws pretty pictures for me, and does it hella fast.

Overall, I've been very pleased with the card, and am not disappointed at all. Gaming just doesnt get much better than this!:D

The card rocks. I've only been using it for about a month, and I've had zero problems. If you knew the size of the Powersupply I'm running this system on, you would really laugh.

I agree, my 9700 pro has been one of the best purchases I have made for my computer. Its not often you can lay down a huge hunk of cash and months later still think that you made the right choice. In this industry there is always envy of some other hardware a month later or something.

The only regret I have is not droping the xtra cash for the 9700. So many toys, so little time.........

omg guys this is getting me more excited for tomorrow when the fedex dood drops off my 9700pro :). Which drivers are better, omega or the 3.0 cats?

sqsisa
01-30-03, 12:36 AM
I would go with CAT3.0a and DX9. See what happens. If you have trouble. See http://www.rage3d.com/board/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=59 and start with the latest post see what 9700Pro users say that have a setup similar to yours.

Make sure you check to see if they are takling about CAT 3.0 or CAT 3.0a.

Enjoy;)

i downloaded the cats of of ati's website yesterday...are those the "a" version?

sqsisa
01-30-03, 01:21 AM
Probably. This link is the 3.0a version- http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonnowdm-xp.html?cboOS=Windows+XP&cboProducts=RADEON+9700+PRO&eula=&choice=agree&cmdNext=Next

This is the driver file name for W2K & XP: wxp-w2k-radeon-7-81-021218a-007192c-efg.exe

The latest version was posted on 1/10/03 to fix OGL stuttering and has a WHQL Cert.

01-30-03, 02:01 AM
do you have a problem with games becoming choppy or blurry? I was reading things over on the rage3d forums and now im kinda scared to see what my results will be tomorrow =\.

sqsisa
01-30-03, 03:50 AM
No mine is OK, I am using Omega. Many people have been satisfied with the 3.0a. I have a little stuttering, so I will probably switch to 3.0a. 3.0 was the first DX9 release. Many people have posted that 3.0a fixed the stutter.

Just my 2cents, but I would try 3.0a first. They were not out when I got my card. If 3.0a has problems, try Omega 3.0.

BTW - If you switch drivers, I recommend completely removing the previous version. You can find a sticky on it this ATI forum or maybe it was Rage3D. If this card is an upgrade on the same OS as your previous card, you may have to reload your computer (If you have problems).

Good luck and enjoy!

I've had my 9500PRO for a week now, And I love it!!! The only Game that seems to give it a hard time is Dungeon Seige. I still get low frame rates with it. I seemed to get better fps with my Gf3 for some reason. But other than that its smooth :D

I get 30 fps max in DS. There must be some cap on FPS. That game really doesn't look that good and is limited to 1024 x 768.

Was really skeptical about purchasing the 9700 Pro. I've read many complaints about the 9700 Pro in user reviews. Check Newegg.com. I read a forum at Rage3d and was told that the 9700 Pro was picky about how the drivers were loaded. So far, this card rocks. Games run great and I am getting 14,434 marks in 3dmark 2001 with no overclocking. Also, my 128meg TI4200 card would sometimes crash in 3dmark 2001.
