Suppose you take away the size, cost and practicality constraints and redesign the impeller chamber of a centrifugal pump... What is the most effective design?

The most major problem with most of the pumps that we are using for water cooling is that they don't have a fixed direction of rotation (makes them cheaper to make, much cheaper) this includes the popular Eheim pumps.

When you have fixed direction of rotation than you can optimize the impeller chamber, fortunatly industry has already pretty much optimized the centrifugal design, we simply have to copy what they have done.

do a google search on centrifugal pump design, you'll find a ton of information.
