help!

Ok, I was playing cs last night, and it frooze, so no biggie i just rebooted the comp. Well, bout half way through loading I get a glue screen saying I need ot check for viruses, chkdsk, etc.... Can't remember much more bout teh screen. Everytime I boot up now I get this screen. I tried booting up with a windows 98se CD and it goes through the options(of which i choose to reformatt AGAIN) and when you hit the last ok it says something like "A disk error was detected while tryin to write the boot record" and setup exits, what can i do to check the disk and/or reinstall windows 98se til i can get 2k pro again

ak32l mobo
512 mb pc133 ram
radeon 7k 32mb
windows 2k pro

i would do a low level format to make sure everything is totally wiped clean and go from there, thats odd though

maybe fdisk /mbr and then try the new install.
