Well, at first I was thinking about getting 2 YS Tech 120mm 130cfm fans, but then being rated at 45dB each, I thought that might be a "little" overkill ;). Anyone have any experience with them? Or what 120mm fans do you recommend to use on a heatercore if you feel that they are overkill?

try fans that have adjustable speed controls :)
so u can blast them when u o/c or somethin
and make them silent while u sleep :d

I use the Y.S.tech model FD1212387B-2I it puts out 125.5 cfm at 45dba (doesn’t sound bad at all it’s a soft pitch) and it rocks PS it cost around $12 and I think it’s the best fan I ever bought rated to 80khr and its got bb’s

I also have this fan on my Black Ice Extreme, but be warned @ 45dba it is load!, not sure if it's to do with my setup, but i could'nt stand the noise......since one of the reasons i turned to water was to get away from screaming 'deltas' and such like.

I recently converted all my 80mm x 4 and 120mm YStech to 5v, and now the loadest thing in my system is my IBM 60gb. You could try setting the YSTech to 7v in which case you maximise quietness whilst maintaining performance.

Any one have any experience with these fans? They seem like a nice noise/performance type of fan, but I don't know anything about the maker.

So I only need a 86cfm fan for my heatercore?

Can you compare the noise to something? I've heard that these fans are not that loud, at least not like the high pitch of the deltas, but just because they move a lot of air. The fans just seem to have a good noise/performance ratio.

Fans

I have 2 of the YS tech 135cfm fans...They are very noisy when wound up at 12V. I have mine on a baybus and they are always on low(7V) and you can barely hear them and they still move a good amount of air. To compare em to something..they sound like a jet taking off. They are very noisy not something you would want beside ya runnin all the time unless you like alot of noise or you can block it out.. Im very happy with these fans.:burn:

That loud huh? I dunno about blocking them out, I might just go with what Hoot said, and get those panaflos. Still, I would like some other people's opinions on the fans already suggested, or any suggestions for a fans that they like.

With radiators(and pumps used for watercooling as well) you also need to take into consideration the pressure as well as flow. Two of the Sunon 120x38's Hoot pointed out in push pull be more than sufficient for a Chevette core, as well as provide good pressure, too.:)

Well, I am planning to use the push pull configuration, so I guess I will go with Hoot's suggestion on the panaflos. I am planning to use them on the heatercore from dtek, but I don't think that would make any differece. Heck, I bet the Chevette cores would perform better than them.

Thanks for the help

I've read about them and they look great for the cfm/dB ratio but I have yet been able to find them for sell to try then.

If it would fit (6.75"), I recomend the Comair Patrioit 24v. If you run this at 12v it still moves a lot of air, but is virtually silent. Make sure you get the fan guards!!

I have one running on my '87 Ford Escort core.

I actually ordered two of the 24V ones earlier this week to play around with. Maybe they'll be at my house this afternoon when I get home from work. A critical factor effecting the noise level from fans blowing through a radiator is the distance from the fan to the actual fin surface. The air comes out of the fans circularly polarized and runs into straight fin channels. If the fan is too close, the shearing of the air from one plane to another causes a lot of noise you would associate with whining or moaning. If you keep the fan blades further away from the fins, by virtue of a shroud, that particular type of noise will go down. Ideally, you should only hear the low whooshing sound of air flowing.

Almost any 120mm fan will do. It dosen't take much airflow running through a heater core to cool everything off.
