I have windows XP Pro on a 40GB drive, and want linux on a spare 6GB drive. I have installed madrake 9.0 twice. First time I choose to erase all and install linux on hdb (6GB). And for some reason it formatted and installed on the 40GB hda. So I reinstalled XP, and this time I unhooked the 40GB drive and made the 6gb one the master and installed, worked fine, made 40gb one the master again and booted. It booted to XP, so i changed mobo to boot IDE1 first instead of IDE0. Now I get LILO - keytable read/checksome error. Probably because it thinks hda should be the 6gb one.

Sooo, how can I get mandrake working with XP, without threatening my 40GB harddrive at all? and YES I DID CHOOSE THE RIGHT DRIVE THE FIRST TIME...

I would get rid of lilo and use grub instead. I have only had success with grub by downloading the source and compiling it mself.

Your probably going to have to reinstall your bootloader. The easiest way to do that is to just reinstall the OS at this point.

During the install, disconnect your other drive if you think it might be overwritten. Connect it when your done, and add an entry to your bootloader for windows (grub and lilo differ on this, tell us which one you're using and we'll tell you how to do it).
