ATI has their DX 9.0 drivers now updated as WHQL'd for all the radeon series and not just the 9700/9500 cards . Unfortunately though the Microsoft seal of approval is just about all that is new . You can find drivers for all operating systems here :

http://mirror.ati.com/support/driver.html

Edit : This should actually be called catalyst 3.0a

According to what I saw over at rage 3d , you don't have to install Direct X 9 . The drivers apparently work with Directx X 8.1 and 8.2 as well. But the older cats will not work if Direct X 9 is installed .

I call the drivers 3.0a as do several websites because they are not the same as the original 3.0 drivers . If it was just the 3.0 driver with a WHQL certification then you could just call it a3.0 WHQL . But as listed above there are several fixes not related to simple WHQL approval .

Oh yeah there is a control panel , but I'm not sure though if the control panel is different between 3.0 and 3.0a . It is definitely newer than the 2.3-2.5 control panels .

Control panels are the same version numbers. The control panel doesn't update as often as the drivers do.

Nice thing about the Omega driver that I am using is there is no control panel it is all rolled into one which imho is better. Performance has been solid with the omega 2355's and DX9 for me!!!!!

Cisco KId:cool: :D

Really? I thought you needed the control panel. I think it's next to pointless without it anyway!

control panel is part of the omeaga 2355 driver already it is incorporated as one not 2 installs as it is with ATI Cat 3.0 and then control anel driver separate.

IMHO the Omega 2355 (which as you prolly know is a tweaked version of the Cat 3.0 but with some minor bug fixes) is a great driver.

install dx 9, then driver, then control panel
the control panel includes all of the cool features of the radeon series that you can tweak, including smartgart. I wouldnt skip it.

SmartGart is really pointless in the end...all it does is allow u to change what speed AGP ur card is running at, and if FastWrite is enabled or not..both usless IMO.
