Hi folks-

I just got a new system with an Albatron GeForce4 ti4200P Turbo 128 and I am having no success at all overclocking it. I've installed the nvtweak etc. and the highest settings I can get are 255 core and 520 memory, respectively (without artifacts or program crashes running 3DMark2001 tests). As this is only 5 (core) and 20 (mem) over the stock speeds, I am more than just a tad bit disheartened. This is an expensive ti4200 and I spent the extra dough because it was rumored to be a great overclocker.

Here's the rest of my specs:

Athlon XP 1800+ tbred smoothly overclocked to 1.99 ghz
MSI MS-6712 KT4V Motherboard
Aero Flow VA4-C7040 Heatsink
256 megs Corsair XMS PC2700 DDR
Maxtor 6L080L4 80 gig HD (7200 RPM)
Windows XP Pro SP1
New nvidia 41.09 driver

Any thoughts on what could be holding me back? I'm stumped, irritated, frustrated and nowhere near the speeds I thought I'd be running at with this card..

I'm new to OC'ing video cards but all the reviews I've read from this card lead me to believe that something is amiss, since everyone else says its a breeze to OC.

Should I be using something other than Coolbits, maybe?

Please advise. I will worship anyone who can set me on the right course toward 4600 speeds.

Yours in all good things,

Ubiq

PS. My 3Dmark2001 benchmarks are around 11250, at current.

PS. I had this same problem before I overclocked my CPU, BTW.

There have been numerous threads relating to the poor performance of the latest batch of these cards. If I were you, and assuming the card is gaurenteed to do enhanced speeds, I would RMA it get yourself something a little more reliable like a Gainward 128mb Ti4200 Golden sample, i have had nothing but great results from mine!!

Yikes. What are the issues? I poked around the forums but nothign really stood out. Are there any other solutions to compensate? Vmods etc.?

Unfortunately it's too late for a refund via RMA. I bought this card from newegg on 11/17.

I had already seen those threads but they really don't help or contain any useful advice beyond the obvious. At what point/date did these cards change, does anyone know? Since I bought mine in mid-Novemeber I'm wondering if it's the generation that is the issue.

Thanks for your help!

Your card default should be 250/550, not 250/500, since its using 3.3ns BGA ram, and clocked higher than a normal Ti4200. If you've purchased your card back in Nov., its hard to tell if its the first batch or the second batch(you can find out by knowing the ram used on your card, Ethrotech=1st, Samsung=2nd. But even the 2nd batch should oc higher than yours. Try uninstall/reinstall your detonator, and use RivaTuner instead to oc your videocard.
