Right now i have a generic stick of 256 PC2100 DDR. I just got a new 2.4b p4 witch is a C1 stepping. I've overclocked it to 2.7 , witch is 151 fsb, much higher than that and it will lock up. I'm thinking of buying some XMS Corsair pc2700 or pc3000 or pc3200 for some major overclocking with this c1 p4, would this be the right path to take? any suggestions

Yes. You'll be able to overclock the RAM higher and thus the system as a whole. While I support Corsair's XMS line, you might also want to give Kingston ValuRAM or Crucial PC2700 a look.

Be carefull if you buy used Corsair PC2700. The first models had 7.5ns Micron chips and were nothing special. The best choice for PC2700 is Samsung CTL. Samsung makes thier own sticks...but the CTL is hard to find these days. You can find CTL chips in the later runs of Corsair and OCZ (I would avoid OCZ though) PC2700 and PC3000 as well. Avoid Winbond and Kingmax PC2700...they cant even run agresive timings @ 166 Mgz. Nanya and Crucial PC2700 will get the job done and overclock a bit, nothing special. The best deal out there right now is the Twinmos PC3200 that uses 5ns Winbond chips...great deal for $75 / 256. Same stuff as Corsair PC3200.
