I got bit by the AA bug and now have about 6 of my friends into the game. We had a little LAN party and some people brought machines and had extras... u know how it is.

It turns out that two of the guys had to use a Dell machine with a TNT2 cards in them. One would play in the 10-20 framerate and the other in the 7-17 framerate range. Not sure about the difference but the point is, neither one of these were really playable.

Now one of them is bit by the AA bug and wants a cheap card (as in less then $50.00 including the shipping) that is able to play AA without dropping below 20 fps.

Would a GF2 MX200 play this game? Since the TNT2's could almost get away with it I would think this should be able to handle it but I wanted to bounce it off you all first.

Shoot me some info.

thanks,

A Geforce 2 MX400 or a Radeon 7500 should be able to handle the game and get a decent framerate. I don't know about the MX200, but the difference between the MX200 and the TNT2 is actually not that great so I'm guessing if a TNT2 has trouble then you should probably go with at least the MX400. Also, don't get the Radeon 7000 as it has no hardware T&L.

I would go with a Gf2 Ti or GTS (I think they are the same).

Tell your buddy if he will go as high as $90 he will get a MUCH better card for just $40 more. It seems like a waste to spend $50 on a card like that when you can get a Gf3 or a R8500le for a bit more that is MUCH faster, has better eye candy and will last a lot longer.

I had AA once with my gf2 mx 200, never checked how many fps I was getting, but I'm sure it wasn't over 20

I get more than 40 fps at 1024x768 in AA with a gf2 mx. shrug. Thhey are good cards.. but yeah, if you can get a cheap GTS it will get better.

What MX card... the 400 or 200? Also are you talking inside buildings? Because outside you will notice a dramatic drop in FR.

Stay away from the MX200.

If they can spend up to $50, go to Newegg and get one of the MX440-SEs. Sure they use SDRAM, but it'll run better than just about anything else you can find for that price.
