I just started building a new machine for my brother, its an Xp2000 TBRED running on a K7n2 Nforce2 mobo. It has 256 pc2700mb of ram and is currently running on a PCI graphic card.

Heres the prob... im running the computer with an Visiontek Gforce4 64mb MX 420 PCI. I get too much lag.... when i try to test out a game like for example rtcw the game runs really choppy... even on low res/detail. On the desktop the stuff runs the same way... when annimations are on the screen in the desktop it runs choppy... could this be the card? or the CPU? or the RAM?

the card does have an AGP 8x port but atm its running the PCI card cause im waiting to order my agp card...

any help would be awsome.

Have a good one!!

I didnt know people still use pci graphics card. PCI graphic cards are slow. Also, make sure you have features turned off Allising, etc. Turn off features you dont need. I'm pretty sure AGP card will make games run much smoother. How much are you willing to spend on a card? I can recommend you a good card.

Is there any way to fiddle with the bus speeds/ratios in your bios? That would be the only way I can think of to up the performance of a PCI card.

BTW kfunk, I run a 16M Voodoo3 PCI in my server and it works just great. Not in my gaming rig mind you, but for a server they are a wonderful, and inexpensive alternative.
