I'm just too confused!

Is it just me or are their just too many versions of ATI cards out there. I swear!

I thought about getting a 8500LE, but I've found that the clock speed has GONE DOWN with time and different manufacturers! The one I was thinking about was clocked at 250/200!

Then I read about the 9100... I uderstood it to be a rebadged 8500 retail, but apparently it's just an LE.

Okay... I could go with reatil versions, but then the price comes ever too close to my trusted Nvidia. Okay, I think about getting a better card. Where does the 9500 fall, oh wait, there is a PRO version that's much better! ARGH! Too many card, too many versions, too much leeway for other manufacturers to screw up.

I wish I had the money for a 9700, then the decision would be an easy one, but in this low-mid grade that I'm stuck there is just a bunch of confusion and B.S. marketing. I think I'll just save for a nice TI-4200 or something:rolleyes:

9500Pro is great they are all clocked at the same speeds...and they are much faster than the 4200....and are really great when AA and Aniso are used.....

9500 has 4 pipelines as opposed to the 9500Pros 8 pipes and is about as fast as a 4200...their main appeal is that some can be modded into 9700s.....

9100/8500 is a crapshoot.....i agree Ati wasnt hard enough on its partners and there are lots of crappy 8500les out there.....just look for a seller who guarantees the clocks

or wait till r9700 non pro is worth $200, i say thats a pretty good deal, just oc, cooljag and you have +gffx performance :D

Yeah, thats pretty bad, I hope that kind of crap doesn't happen with the R300 based cards.

There already seems to be a company selling 9700 pros with lower clock speed.

The 8500le is a great dealso long as you don't get screwed with 200mhz 5ns ram chips.

Even the 230 stuff is what 4ns which isn't too bad, although not as good as the 3.6ns stuff.

I can see this is an ATI fan thread, but TI4200 costs just a bit more. It's a tried and true card that never really had any problems to speak of (except one manufacturer-Gainward). It's probably the first "step" up from the 8500/9100 and you can't go wrong.

you are definitely right, but back in the day when i got my r8500, gf4 4200 where worth $50 more so i couldnt afford it...

Yeah, ATI does have alot of different versions of cards...but then again Nvidia does have thier fare share of that aswell. Think about this...

what's Ti 4200-SE?? the 8x version of Ti-4200?? how about Ti-4800?? If I'm not mistaken, that's just Ti 4400 w/ 8x agp right? and if it is, why the hell did Nvidia market it at 4800? as if it would perform better than 4600?? dangg ... they should just go with the simplest thing (back when all were only 4200/4400/4600 .. much simpler ..)

I guess I'm saying that with Nvidia you at least know what clock speed you're getting. The SE's are getting close to annoyance, though.
