Matrix is a coating on the cd, there are 2 large manufactures of them, one is in Taiwan and another one is in Japan, the ones that are from japan are much better than the taiwanese ones.

Back to the topic now, where can i get some? :P

i never heard about different brands of coating.. is it the same thing as the dye? something like pthalocynine dye being better than the other one, whatever it is.

Actually there are three manufactorers out there. Ritek, CMC Magnetics, and Taiyo Yuden. Taiyo Yuden is the Japanese company.

As for how to get them cheap. BestBuy is the best place. They almost always have Fuji 50pks(Fujis are always Taiyo Yudens) for $3-5 after MIR or 100pks for $7 after MIR. They also regullarly put Memores CD-Rs on sale for $5 after MIR(Memorex's are sometimes TY, they have black spindle tops on them, BB usually has some of them). The 100pk memorex's also go on sale every so often and can be Taiyo Yudens(you have to look at the bottom of the label for the words Made In Japan and not Made in Taiwan).

Sony's used to the TY, but I am not sure of them. Same with TDK which I am fairly sure aren't. Fuji is the safe way. If it has a white spindle top(see the Taiyo Yuden packaging trend for 50pks here) then they are TY disks. It may take a couple of weeks to get 100, but its no trouble at all.

Edit, BestBuy has the Memorex 50pks on sale this week for $4.99(probably after a $10 MIR, thats the usual). Just make sure you get one with a black spindle top. If it doesn't have that, it isn't a TY disk.
