I am looking for the cheapest 5.1 sound card to get for a couple systems. I was looking at the Aopen AW850 at newegg for $14.

I have a sb live 5.1 in one system I have and it is awesome. I know some people have to have better but I just need something that sounds decent , I don't need studio quality sound out of my computer. Has anyone used this card or anything else close to this price range that will do 5.1 ?

Nope, If it were me Id get more of these wonders they used to sell at best buy for $20 called Hercules Gamesurround Muse 5.1 DvD.. The quality is about as good as a SBLIVe and I know this cause I own plenty of sblives... and I dont even use one in my gaming rig.. See if you can pick them up for cheap on ebay or pricewatch. Its basically the 5.1 ac97 chip on a cool looking card.. so theres a heads up..

whoa bro, the hercules muse line uses Cmedia 8738 .. you can have the exact same chip from a no-brand name sound card for half that price shipped (I got one for $13 shipped from livewarehouse.com, came by the name EZ multimedia, and the driver is 100% update-able thru windows update or download from cmedia.com.tw) ...

that chip is also used as a chip for onboard sound, it won't sound much different than your onboard sound from the motherboard

The onboard sound is fine , but it isn't 5.1 that is why I need something else.
