Dell.com has 10% off all home accessories plus $40 off anything over $450.

The Planar PX171m is a 17" LCD with <16ms response time (only one of 4 LCD's on the market with these bragging rights)

for $569 - 10% - $40 - $50 (free shipping) = $472 shipped

retails for $589 before shipping anywhere else...

$40 coupon code: 90B124D9063A

Someone want to let me borrow $472? AHHHHH I WANT THIS SO BADLY!!!!

Does that mean it doesn't ghost?

Yes, it does. Well, for the most part anyways. 16 ms equates to a refresh rate of just over 60 Hz. Though, of course, you don't have the flicker since it works differently.

TO confirm:

I wrote the author of the anandtech.com article on the CML174 (which if you haven't read yet, be ashamed), and he wrote me this:

Hi J,

I have heard a lot of mixed opinions about Viewsonics VX series. The contrast ratios seem very skewed because VS's OEM manufacturers claim one thing while VS claims another.

That aside, 25ms response time should equate to a little less than 40fps. 1000ms in a second, 1000 / 25 = 40. Since we calculate the rise and fall (usually about 15 rising and 10 falling), the total fps might be a little less.

As we mentioned, 18"+ 16ms LCD's are probably around 4-5 months away. We confirmed that it will be at least July before we see sub 20ms reponse time LCD's from Samsung. Sharp, LG, Fujitsu and a few others are also working on FFD implementations.

The Planar, Eizo and Viewsonic 16ms LCD's are all based on the same substrate. I am assuming you are pretty much going to get the same performance out of each one.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Cheers,

Kristopher

Thats SUCH!! a good deal! I paid about a $100 or so more bucks for my planar. All i can say is i feel sorry for those that still stick with buying crts. This Lcd screen is amazing. Anything sub 16ms truly rocks.

I use them in my computer labs at school, and they certainly do rock. Best monitor I have ever used. If I had $472 to blow, I would get it. (Who wouldn't?)

If I wanted an LCD I would get one, don't feel sorry for me ;) I like to game, and to game with no ghosting you can't beat a CRT especially a Sony Tubed CRT
