View Full Version : unreal 2 sound noise
Unreal 2 runs fine just that the sound has very annoying cracking noise. I use the onboard audio (no EAX).
I also play UT2003 and it doesn't have any problems - the sound is clear.
Anybody has the same problem? Any ideas how to resolve this?
My system is in my sig. OS is win2k.
Does anybody have sound problems with Unreal 2 or is it just me?
Any noise?

i know what you mean by the crackling noise, its kinda obscure so i couldt tell if it was the games ambience or was a problem... im using a sb live value, hopefully itll be addressed in a patch
i also get some sound distortion in unreal2, it will probably be fixed in a patch ... for those of you who use eax, there is a patch for that at fileshack.com
Same.
I thought a few of the ambient sound files had gotten corrupted or something but I guess this is an actual issue. I have an SB Live value with the newest drivers. The bug isnt all that bad, it is annoying but it goes away.. hopefully it will be patched, in the first patch.
BTW this didn't start happening for me until later in the game, I believe level 9 or 10.

All i get is a little "click" here and there, nothing really noticable when your in the game.
I had EXACTLY the same problem with Unreal2 - after playing with the settings I ended up downloading the latest AC97 drivers (I am using the onboard sound too). Hey presto, noise was gone.
Hope this helps

I've had a different problem, using EAX. My surround sound is way too sensitive, I have to turn my player sideways, so I can listen with a specific ear. EAX has made Marshall hard of hearing! If I'm facing forward, the players talking or my guns or what-have-you, are ultra quiet, unless I can angle one ear towards them.
lexx, Thanks a lot.
This gives hope...
Did you get the drivers from viaarena?
What version did you install?
lexx, THANKS A LOT!!!!
I tried the new drivers and voala! No noise any more!!!
