View Full Version : TV Wonder VE troubles

I don't know whether this is caused by bad drivers or bad hardware, but I've got problems with noise. My TV Wonder VE is hooked up to cable TV (w/o a box, for cheaper service), and for some reason, on some channels, there's either a 1-2 pixel black and white noise pattern at the very top of the picture, or a slightly thicker solid black bar on the left side of the picture. The card didn't do this before. I also don't think it's a cable problem, as I tried hooking my card up to a TV antenna and still got the same pattern of noise at the top.

Is this the card's oversensitivity to some signal noise, or is it a driver problem, or - God forbid - a hardware failure?

What's even worse is when the aforementioned top-line noise appears only intermittantly throughout a program. This causes (especially in animation) horizontal and diagonal lines to 'swim'. The motion appears vertical, probably due to the noise rapidly disappearing and reappearing; the card probably can't decide which line to put the picture information on. It's as if it were rapidly switching from 320x240 to 320x239.

My other problem is the CD that came with the card. It's outdated - ATi's newer CDs that ship with TV Wonder-series cards include the Gemstar Guide+ channel guide. My CD is out of date and doesn't include the program, and I shouldn't have to buy another card from ATi just to get the software. It isn't available for download anywhere on the net, and I'm thinking of emailing ATi and requesting an updated CD.
