View Full Version : Should I...
I'm building a new system based on a 2100+ and Epox 8RDA+
i figure i'll move my ti4400 over to that system and see how it runs on it.
in the mean time i need a vid card for my p4 box. i need something that will still play the current games fairly well but don't really wanna spend much money on it.
i figure my options are an 8500 or a ti200. spending 70-90 bucks or so.
might be able to get an 8500 in the classifieds here for 75ish. no clue about ti200.
suggestions? which is better for the money? i skipped from a gf2mx400 to my ti4400 so i really don't have any experience with anything in between.
the 8500 will be ther better performer, and have better image quality...i would go for that.

Second that.
thats what i was thinking.
is driver support ok for the 8500's?
i know the 9700s are solid drivers, but i think the 8500's still had some junk thrown in at some point.
The drivers for the 8500 are just as stable as the 9x00 cards IMO. I had no troubles at all before i switched to my 9500 Pro from my 8500
ok. so the stock 8500 retail was 275/275 right?
the oem was 250/275 or something like that.
i saw one on newegg that was 200/250  thats horrible.

one thing oyu have to be sure to do is get rid of your det drivers
i have heard stories from ppl wondering why their ATi Card is doing horrible, and it was because they still had nvidia drivers on there. the new Ati drivers are great fro mwhat i hear, god i cant think of hte name...i think it starts with a C. allwell,, get rid of nvidia drivers.
Catalyst ;)
Sounds better then Detonators to me...and Radeon sounds a hell of a lot better then GeForce, heh

:( i like geforce. Theres been more radeons then geforce tho, if one series is due for an update, it is definately radeon. haha. see catalyst! i was thinkin "catastrophe" eh i was close enuf. yeah those drivers.
Theres been more GeForces then Radeons...the first Radeon was made to compete with the GF2 i believe.

Yeah, 8500 128mb with BGA r0x0r.

you need to split up Geforce2 MX, in the begging there was a vanilla Geforce 2MX, but then there was a Geforce2 MX200 and MX400, also you forgot Geforce2 Ultra...not to mention that the 9600,9800,9900 are a long ways off
but to answer Maxvla's question....the 8500 drivers for me have been rock solid...With the new cats there seem to be only two issues:
in UT2003 2X AA causes tecture loss (but the 8500 doesnt have the horsepower to perform at good resolutions with 2XAA)
also in CS when using custom skins FPS actually goes down...dunno why...i suspect its because of truform (which REALLY improves the appearance of half life graphics)

Well if you want to nit-pick...I also missed alot of Radeons like the Pro versions of the 9x00 series, which I have updated. Either way, there have been more Radeons than GeForces.
*EDIT* I just counted and realized that the number of Radeons to GeForces are EQUAL. 20 for both sides.
