too quiet!

my onboard sound chip is ac 97 and it is painfully quiet. i dont know much about sound cards or drivers but as far as i know everything is cranked including all sliders in the volume control icon. My speakers used to go very loud on my old motherboard.
What do i do to get some more volume?!

The volume level on AC97 soundcards varies alot. Some motherboards will give decent levels, some will be very silent.

no, as far as i know, ac 97 sound is not a brand but a standard of sound chips, and i dont know the brand or model of my chip. how do i find this out?

Si sandra should tell ya everything ya need to know. I have the a7v8x with built in sound and was not pleased with performance as well. I even down loaded the latest drivers from the board maker and still was disappointed. Yesterday I bought the sb audigy 2 . needless to say I find it much more to my liking. Bottom line : if your an audiophile, the on board sound will not be enough. If your a heavy gamer,on board sound will not be enough. If your the average pc user/number cruncher/online web browser/ on board sounds is gonna 'do you just fine..........tr

is there sound cards that have output to a stereo speakers, not speakers designed for computers.
