Im ready to buy a new motherboard along with a new cpu. I was hopin to get a 1.8a-c1 stepping as my processor and with the new Geforce FX series coming out, I was looking for a motherboard with good overclocking capabilities so that i can make break 3 ghz, and also supports AGP 8x for the new Geforce cards. Any suggestions? Thanks

You are going to be very limited in which mobos support 8X AGP. You'll have to get one of the expensive Granite Bay mobos if you want an Intel chipset or go with one of the new dual channel SIS chipset mobos. Asus has a couple mobos available that will suit your needs.

Personaly i think AGP 8x is FLUFF and only marketing. It doesnt offer any REAL adavatnge over 4x. So dont worry to much about getting an 8x AGP board. The FX Card will work in a 4x AGP board just fine, so keep your options open to 4x boards aswell

Get this motherboard GSQ800 with 655 Chipset. My cousin bought the mobo from a computer store yesterday and he overclocked his 1.7GHZ Willmette core to 2.4Ghz. I am sure the motherboard could've overclocked more but because of the chip my cousin can't go above that. Not bad HUH??? This thing have Dual Channel DDR, 8X AGP, 800Mhz FSB For future upgrade to Prescott. Go to pricewatch.com or pricegrabber.com to find the cheapest prices. I am gonna be ordering this mobo soon and give it a try. One thing though This mobo does not have RAID functionality but who cares. I think you can buy a RAID card that will give you the same functionality but I am not sure.

asus p4g8x - cost too much but that mobo is best
msi sis 655 - good board, low price but not overclckible to much
Gigabyte SINXP1394 - bad overclocker , bad bios , dont have CMOS discharge jumper.

Hey! (HR)Titan

Who said Gigabyte SINXP1394 is a bad overclocker. I received my mobo 2 days ago and I too overclocked my P4 1.7GHZ @ 2.45GHZ That is not bad for a willamette core. Actuall gigabyte SINXP1394 is the best mobo with SIS655 chipsets. Maybe you should read other messages on these boards and many people like this board. Maybe you are too busy watching porno that you don't read enough. Go do a search on google.com and you will see many overclocking results or you can just look for messages here. CHECK YOUR DAWM FACTS BEFORE YOU ANSWER.

ha ha ha
come down !
i know that because i tested Gigabyte SINXP1394 ...
maybe i have a bad sample of gigabyte mobo...
but of three mobo which i named in the post, gigabyte is the worst overclocker!
i tryed msi 655 max -and that mobo is solid , but the best for overcocking is asus p4g8x.
i really tested that mobos u can see that here
btw be nice next time

sorry

sorry man! I am kinda mad because you gave really bad reviews to one of the awesome overclocker motherboards that are out there right now. I am pretty sure that you got a bad piece. So accept my apology. Anyways, what kind of problems were you having with Gigabyte SINXP1394 and I will see if I can help you. And please give me your email address since I have couple of questions if you dont mind. Later

i accept your apology ;)
bad part is BIOS - tweaking options are hiden(u must press ctrl+f1),and some options which , not must be hiden are hiden too.for example turn on/off SMART for ide discs.
and the most worst thing is, not having clear cmos jumper.so if u go too far with overclocking u must chop out battery.
now overclocking-p4 1.8 was stable @ 2.5 (on asus p4g8x he was stable at 2.7(and that is max for proc. it isn't c1))
memory settings asus 2-2-2-5 , Gigabyte 2-2-2-7
....
and now ,once again, i saing that Gigabyte SINXP1394 is very good mobo , but i have seen much better...
....
i suprised myself either when i saw the bad overcloacking results
everybody sais that the Gigabyte SINXP1394 is one of the best , but i can trust in that
i hate when i have contradiction against thousand pople who have same opinion

8x might be a marketing bluff, but it is all for future upgrades. I'm sure when 4x came out people called that a bluff. It will dominate in the future I am sure.

I'm pretty sure that by the time any kind of advantage gained by AGP 8x becomes noticable, PCI-X will be well on it's way to becoming mainstream, ensuring 8x AGP remains as redundant as it is now.

Am i the only person who took one look at the positioning of the two power connectors on the MSI SiS655 board and decided i would never buy one? I can't think of a worse place to have them than where they are located on that board. I'm with the majority here and think the Gigabyte SINXP 1394 is the SiS655 chipset board to go for.
