I have a thermistor I ripped off a dead temp control fan.. anyone know how I might hook this up to my mobo's smbus connector? Can I hook it direct, or do I need additional electronics.

Anyone?

it'd take additional circuitry. you're on your own there. sorry

That's an article on building the circuitry.

Look at this link to if you want to know how to connect the circuit to your mobo...

I'm trying to get hold of one of them Maxim-chipps myself.

I would assume digi-key has them, havent checked though But I do know they carry quite a bit of Maxim components

It would work if your mobo has a smbus connector. Look at the manual for one. Radio Shacck of Digikey should have the connectors.

You don't need SMbus-pinns on your board. It is a bus and therefor you can connect anywhere on it...

It connsists of two lines. One that ia a clock, and one for sending/receiving data.

Look at the link above.. Oh what the heck, here it is again :)

As U can see one easy way to connect is on the memmory. I personally like that idea cause it keeps me from soldering on my mobo.

There are other ways. Ust lokalise the two signals anywhere and connect to them.
For instance, U can check the legs on the SB.

Heres another guy who made the same circuit, although not as nice an accurate. (he left out some of the capacitors)

thats good, because I just discovered I dont have any smbus pins. And Im not timid about soldering on a ddr ram chip, because I have a gig and a quarter sitting around for backup. Hehe
