1. Which would benefit more in a P4 2.8 or 3.06Ghz system, a mobo w/ 512MB RDRAM PC-800 of ram, or a mobo w/ dual ddr pc-2700 768MB of ram?

2. If a mobo with dual ddr333 (that's pc-2700 right?) 768 mb of ram isnt faster, would a mobo w/ dual ddr400 768MB of PC-3200 ram be faster?

3. Do ram stick's come at either CAS 2.0 or CL2 or do you have to set them at that? What is CAS 2.0 and CL2? Does that just means it runs faster?

4. How could I find out how much my current 512RDRAM is running at? It's prolly CAS 1.0 or CL1 im guessing.

5. When I have a mobo offering dualddr400/ ddr333, and I get say 768MB of DDR400 or ddr333 ram, wutever the mobo supports.. does it automatically run at dual speed or do you set it somewhere?

6. People say that DDR ram has less latency than RDRAM, but RDRAM is faster? Where would less latency come in handy when using DDR? How big is the difference?

What I am getting at is, I am upgrading my system soon, to either 2.8Ghz or 3.06 GHz P4. I will also be getting a new mobo... but Im deciding whether to get a mobo that supports RDRAM, so I could just put my current ram in the new mobo, or get a mobo that offers dual ddr 333/400, and get 768mb of ddr ram. I could always sell my rdram to get the money for ddr ram. I want to know which would be faster/better in the long run. I play hardware demanding games all the time, so I want what is best. I won't be ocing the ram.. I dont know a lot about all that CL2 and CAS 2 stuff, thats why Im asking about those.. I would just get some good quality DDR ram if I went that route.

Thanks for your time.

Sory can only ancer a few

3) You do not need to adjust the CAS Latency, aka CL, or CAS to get it to 2.0

4) Sorry, but there is no such thing as a CAS latency of 1 afaik....but in the award bios on my 8k3ae....its under Advanced Chipset features, then DRAM and Clock timings or sometin else w/DRAM in it...it should say somewhere in there

5)There really is no dual speed....all dual ddr does is double the memory bandwidth....but as long as u use the 2 banks specified for D-DDR it should dot it iself.....

That was all i know right now....sorry i couldnt help you any more =\

latency makes very little difference, it is the time (in ns) that it take the ram to react to a data transfer, and the dual ddr would easily outperform the rdram and moreso if you overclock, if you overclock alot i would reccomend using pc3200 modules running on the 2700 divider allowing it to run at higher speeds, i'm going to answer questions 4 and 6 by saying that the ddr in a dual configuration will outperform and rdram config that you can buy at the moment, in answer to 5. i suggest you look for a motherboard based on the sis 655 chipset which can do dual pc2700 configs, even though you said you aren't going to oc the ram if you are going to OC the proc you have to OC the ram, well good luck

but as long as u use the 2 banks specified for D-DDR it should dot it iself.....

So if I put like 512mb of pc-2700 ram in one slot, and 256mb pc-2700 in the second, that would be ok?

I imagine it would, i have no experience with Dual Channel DDR so i can not verify this, i just know the bit i do on the subject....no actual knowledge that i can support by previous use from me....

So mainly: Yes
