I just helped my friend install a P4 2.8 and a Soyo mobo into his system. The System will not start up though. It powers on and then shuts off right away. The CPU fan is stock and we just put AS3 on it to make sure there was a good contact.

Any idea what we can try to get it to stay on, or anything that might cause it to just shut off like that? It has a 550 watt PS too.

Take everything back out of the mobo, and start from scratch. Make sure all of your components are correctly seated. Just put in the CPU, HSF, RAM, and video card, and work your way up from there

Did you remember to connect the P4 Aux power connector?

Check the ram, check the PS and smell for burning hardware. (you'll notice it, trust me).

Also, CHECK YOUR HEATSINK, maybe you left a sticker on or something and your board's temp fail safe shuts it off.

I do not remember connecting this? WHere is it?

EDIT:

THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I pluged the little power connector to the board and it booted up just fine. THANKS
