View Full Version : Asus CUSL2-C, is it any good? Need your advice..
I am thinking about getting this board to OC my p3-800E. Does anybody know if I can get to 1GHz or higher range with this board?? Thanks.

It is true that with some very stable mobo's you obviously have more chance of achieving big speed.
This motherboard is a corker - it is probably the best 815 board out there - more stable than any but at the same time a little quirky.
I have to say that I'm considering ditching one of my Soyo boxes and going CUSL2 in January.
I have put a couple of my FCPGA celerons in a colleagues CUSL2 and obtained greater stable speeds - such is their quailty and caliber.
Well, this board uses 815EP(w/o video) chip instead of 815E. I dont know if their stability is the same.

What online retailers have this motherboard, in stock? After christmas, I plan to upgrade my BE6-II, and the CUSL2 motherboard sounds great.
Go to http://www.neutronusa.com/static/prdinfo_383847.html. Lots of them in stock.

You'll change your mind about that shop once you check out the shipping charges. Holy moly, $20 for 3/day shipping!! -- should be more like $5.
Well, Computer Warehouse closes to my house has this board but it'll cost me $165 before tax, not a really good deal. But i dont know if my p3-800Mhz can go higher 992mhz which i am at right now on my Abit VH6 board. Does anybody own this mother board and can tell me about their experience?

Sylor....a PIII 800EB at 992mhz is no small feat, and you apparently have a nice cpu there....but more than likely your cpu is approaching it's limit. After all to obtain 992 you are running a 166mhz FSB....and that is pushing the limit a bit already. It is doubtful you would obtain a higher clock speed.....
Motherboards can make or break a good overclocker cpu, but since you apparently do not have that problem....
BTW, what mobo are you running now? Seems a bit tough for any mobo besides an i815 based mobo to hit that high of a front side bus??????? Sounds a bit doubtful....got any WCPUID screens of the OC'ed cpu?

Ahhh crap....now I seen it...you are running a VH6.....
Still...got any screen caps? :-)

Attach is the screen cap. of my WCPUID. I do have problem with my Adaptec 2940SCSI controller, however. I had to move all my SCSI devices (CDROms, Burner,...) to my adaptec 39160SCSI controller for the system to read them. Windows just wont read them with 2940 controller. Everything else is rock stable. I noticed you have CUSL2 board and your running p3-700@980Mhz, therapture. Is that the max you can go with this board? because i am waiting for my CUSL2-C board to come, just ordered it today.

Sylor, please tell where you purchased this mobo. I found that Pc-Nut, a very reputable supplier, has the CUSL2-C version in stock.
I ordered it from neutronet.com for $112.30 + $13.56 s+h, ups ground.

have you guys read that? well...apparently, the CUSL2-C still sports the i815E chipset and not the i815EP though the CUSL2-C doesn't have the onboard video...you still don't get the real i815EP...

Who really cares thou? I just ordered a CUSL2-C from Humphrey at Pc-Nut last night. When I paid $20 less than the full CUSL2 (which includes video and sound that I don't need!), I'm a happy camper.
From what I've heard, the I815E & I815EP are practically identical, next to one having support for video & the other doesn't. Bid deal!!! If you get the nutered i815E for a very very attractive price, don't sweat it. The I815E & I815EP are the same chipset, meaning the same performance and compatibility.

i think the next changes for the i815EP chipset are support for 1GB SDRAM and USB 2.0...
i think the ranting at the thread i posted was that asus advertised the CUSL2-C running the i815EP chipset when in fact the i815EP isn't out yet...according to the thread that is...
bah...it's nice to get the CUSL2-C a lot cheaper 'coz it doesn't have the onboard video and no AGP Pro slot as well...heheheheeheh...coolness!

Ok, since the CUSL2-C is not out, do the nutered CUSL2's being called CUSL2-C's have the AGP Pro50 slot?

Is it www.pcnut.com? They sell the CUSL2-C for $145 before tax. Tell me if i am reading it wrong but it is $33 bucks more than what I bought from the neutronet.com which is $112.

I am pleased to do business with Pc-Nut. They ship out very quickly and have good return service if needed - unlike alot of other companies on the net. Pc-Nut shipped my order before I woke up this morning, so I am very pleased. Also, Neutronetusa charges a ridiculous price for shipping. I mean COME ON, $70 for next day FEDEX?!? No way in h*ll i am paying that much for shipping.
Pc-Nut $147+20SH = $167
Neutro $112+70SH = $182
BAH!!!
PS - check out www.resellerratings.com
Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks they have outrageous shipping charges. Neutronet rating = 5.4 and Pc-Nut = 6.8 -- hmm not too hard huh? Looks like there're QUITE a few people on resellerratings that are very unhappy, amongst other things...

I didn't select nextday S+H. UPS ground is my choice for $13 bucks, and yes $70 bucks is way too crazy to pay for next day. I just like to save money whenever I can because I am not in hurry. If I wanted the board next day, I would of pick PCNut :).

Yes, $70 is waay too much money. To me, it looks like they sell the product for dirt cheap at neuronet, but then they charge a ridiculous price for the faster SH services, all to make up their lost money. Just my $0.02.

OOPS...Sylor..I assumed you had the 800 "EB" cpu....instead, I see from your WCPUID pic (thanks man) that you have the 100fsb version....ahh my bad!
My 700E can do 1008mhz easy, (144fsb @ 1.8v) but to do that I have to turn my ram down a bit, and the tradeoff is not worth it. So I run at 980 where I can leave my ram at 2-2-2 5t-7t instead of having to drop it down to 3-2-2 7t-9t.
The board is ultra stable and I love it...however I am not putting any more big money into this rig, as in 6 months I will be getting an entirely new rig, hopefully in the 1.5ghz range :-)

Well I'm kind of expect to get at least 1.1GHz with this CUSL2-C on this 800E. That why i pay $130 for this board :). Dont know if it's worth it though. You seem to have PC150 ram and you still have to lower your ram down @144fsb?
