Asus P4S533,SiS645DX,256MB DDR pc2100(266),Pentium 4 1.7GHz,overclocking questions

Hi,

i am new to overclocking, i have been reading up on it for a while
looking up to you guys that successfully overclocked..i just need to
clarify some things before i actually go ahead with it..Thanks for
your time and patience.. Thanks a lOT!! I would like to overclock my p4 1.7 to at least 2.2..

This is what i'm at...ACPI Bios revision 1007

~ SiS645DX CPU to PCi Bridge, Asus P4S533 mobo, 404MHz FSB, (DIMM Synchronous DRAM) 256MB DDR pc2100(266) <-[installed in bank2-Dimm2 of 3, from the rebuilder i got it from], Pentium 4 1.7GHz, ATI RAdeon7000ddr...Standard factory Pentium Heatsink/CPU Fan, Thermaltake Smart Case fan 2 *2, Enermax 350W EG365P-VE Dual Fan Power supply,

the bios the settings are as follows..

CPU SPEED" selection rotates from "1700MHz" to "2266MHz" to "Manual" as usual at 1700Mhz it defaults the CPU/Pci Frequency to "100/33" .. with the setting of "2266MHz" it defaults the CPU/Pci frequency to "133/33"

(initially, i was thinking i should simply set the cpu speed at 2266MHz and set the CPU/PCI freq. to 133/33 to overclock it..i havent done that because i'm not sure if that will fry my cpu or ram?)

"CPU/MEMory Frequency Ratio" is SET to 3:4 (because using 256MB-pc2100 ddr 266) though i heard i could set it higher..i.e. to 3:5?

CPU Vcore setting is already higher than normal..(i think) its SET to
1.750 V

CPU level2cache enabled as well as bios update..
i havent changed any Advanced Chip Config's or SDRAM Config's Or AGP settings

Q-FAN(smart cpu fan control) is disabled ~~i should change that?
MB TEMP 32.0C/89F in idle or 32.5C/90.5F
CPU temp 38.0C/100F in idle or 40.C\104F
Power temp
CPU FAN SPEED 3054-3089RPM
Chassis FAN SPEED 2636-2857 Rpm
Power Fan speed 2743-

Vcore Voltage 1.776-1.808V (range)
+3.3v voltage 3.37V
+5V voltage 4.97 - 4.99V (range)
+12V voltage 11.96V (idle) 12.096V

I would love to see my 1.7 run at 2.2. thanks for your help, i hope i can return the favour..or at least buy you lunch :D:)

just set the fsb choice to manual and slowly bump up the fsb numbers by a little bit each time and see if it boots up, or... if your feeling fairly gutsy set it at 133 and see if it'll post then take it from there.

Okay I bumped up the fsb(they jump by 1MHz increments) to 440MHz (4x 110MHz) and its running great at 1.87GHz. I've had it at that since 6am today and its 6.32pm now(Toronto time -5.00) I've used SETI and SiSoftware Sandra 2002 Standard...which tells me the performance rating is PR2057(est.)

Well thanks iD10t and thanks aceton for the information...and your help on this matter..
I'm going to run out and buy a new Heatsink and fan for my cpu, so i can test it at 4x 122MHz, i'm still using stock hSF.. :$ but i have case fans, my CPU temp seems to be 40C/104F, when using the ASUS probe software that came with the motherboard.

I'll see if i can find a good dEaL on the Swiftech MCX4000 s478 Heatsink (which is 69.98CDN) & some fan..i have to read some mo' reiews..

or i'll be happy with the Thermaltake Volcano 7+ for 38.00CDN

Thanks again..i'll post how my next overclock goes after i buy the HSF..take care
