which would be better to have as master and slave in the 2nd IDE drive?

dvd rom as master and cdrw as slave?

or

cdrw as master and dvd rom as slave?

and what are the benefits of each if possible to give?

It is better to have the optical drives on a different IDE chain because you will have better luck with copying on the fly. If you go that route, put the dvd on the same chain as your primary master so you have better luck burning from your hard drive.

what maxpower was saying is that he suggests (for faster copying from one drive to another) that you set it up like this:

ide channel 0
master - 1st hard drive w/operating system or bootloader
slave - optical drive (whichever you want)
ide channel 1
master - 2nd hard drive
slave - optical drive (whichever you want)

but if you want both of your optical drives on the same ide channel like you said above, it will make no difference which drive is master and which is slave...

U don't want a optical on the same channel as the HDD...u will loose performance.

how so? i mean, you could be right, i am just curious as to why. i always want facts to back up everything... i don't know for sure how the best arrangement for performance is; but for the optical drives, unless you are coping files from 1 drive to another, there shouldn't really be any difference as to where they are plugged in
