Hi, how are you?

I'm fine, thanx...There's just this one issue that i have..this morning before leaving for class i turned off my pc..usually its on 24/7..i did this to see how much the CPU temp would drop. I even left the window of my room open a crack. When i came home which was 15hours later..i booted up and checked the temp..it was exactly the same. (104F/40C )So i decided to overclock it a bit more..my cpu(1.7GHz p4) to 2.006GHz and it just wouldnt boot windows. :(

I then tried to drop the CPU and PCI frequency by a bit..2 MGz. It still wouldnt boot. at 118(cpu)/39(pci) which is equal to 2.006GHz and 117/39.. but then when i choose 115/38 it boots fine. with the CPU/Memory ratio at 3:4 the whole time and CPU Vcore at 1.750 V

I was just wonder what the problem is here? IF anyone knows?

Something has to be stopping me from overclocking over 1.96GHz..

I was thinking it has something to do with one of the pci cards i have in the computer..which are one wireless net card. one category 5 cable network card. one 56k Conexiant Modem. and the extra USB ports that i never use. Oh..and the AGP is my ATI Radeon 7000. hmm..

okay in my last Post i said that I was going to buy a new CPU fan..i haven't had the time for that yet. I'm thinking about the Thermaltake Volcano 7+ for $38.00 CDN, it has had good reviews.

thanks for your time and patience

This is what i'm at...ACPI Bios revision 1007

oops..i thought i pressed "post reply" oops..

I forgot to mention..when i tried to boot windows XP pro, service pack 1(unhacked version from school) ;) with the CPU/PCI Frequency at 118/39 and 117/39 the screen would just go black..when it should be booting. If this information is helpful..like if that tells me its the voltage settings then this post was worth it..if not..Have a nice day and thanks for your help

you can try a lower memory ratio and see if it goes any higher, but my comp also has issues when i try to run a pci freq higher than 38, but that is usually only when i run folding, 117/38 may be your limit without a pci lock. also... if you don't want to frag your CPU i would suggest turning your vcore down near specs if it is a northwood, so you don't chance the wrath of S.N.D.S.
btw i'm running a 2.4p4 on a p4s533 at 2760mhz at ~1.6-1.68 vcore. 117/38 fsb/pci.

Thanks again iD10t! this is the second time you helped me. wow. ;)

my cpu is a P4W (willamette) Pentium 4 1.5-2G 1.7v Generation: 7th (7x86) multiplier: 1700MHz / 4x100MGz Performance rating: PR2154(est) microcode: MU0F1228 Front side bus: 4x115MHz (460MHz) Speed: 1.96GHz ...ummm.. not a northwood

I think you are correct about the pci.. by the way, how is your cpu? I was thinking of buying that exact one but throwing it into a P4PE...what is your take on that mobo? thanks again

no prob, i like the processor, it's runs over 2800 mhz with the pci out of whack (but rebooted when folding was tuned on) so i'm thinkin 3 ghz with locked pci, if you get the c1 stepping 2.4A you should be able to hit over 3 ghz on a p4pe due to the pci lock, i don't know how a p4pe is by experience but a lot of people seem to be able to get high overclocks with 'em. another board to check out would be the abit bh7, i am getting one this weekend, but have to see how high my p4 can go with pci locked to specs. the bh7 seems like a better deal than the p4pe to me because it costs about $92 US and the p4pe/L is $113 US from newegg. both have the 845PE chipset.
