What? Isnt a thumb drive only 512MB/1GB max why would you want to partition it. you way be able to to do it with a newer version of magic or even in the drive maintenace program in windows....dang it now I want to know if you can and what about a floppy I dont think you can partiton one

I dont think you can do that to a thumb drive. I mean you could try to do it through setdisk in a frighteningly crippled DOS (if you're using winxp)...but then again, I'm fairly certain there's a minimum size for a partition...and your USB key may not even have enough disk space to create two partitions.

You should be able to through dos. You just need a dos boot disk and the right drivers.

I just bought a Sandisk USB card reader the other day and was playing around with a 15MB Compact Flash card and was able to delete the partition in W2k, however, I could not set a partition on it afterwards.

After searching on Google I found a site with some DOS USB drivers. I was able to boot using a dos boot disk and the drivers and used FDISK to repartition the card.

I'll see if I can dig up the site again.

EDIT - http://www.bgdf.com/darkehorse/PC/DOS/Drivers/USB/index.shtml

There is the site. Hope it helps.

thanks
the thumbdrive is 128mb
the reason I am doing this is:
I setup linux on the thumb drive.. and it is bootable

so when i stick it in a computer , it loads lilo. Then from lilo, I can select what OS, or what i want to do..
So what I am thinking, instead of carrying around 10 different bootdisks, i can just put all of it on the thumbdrive and let lilo boot it, but inorder to do that I have to partition the drive.

oh well, I try booting into dos.

thanks-Lee

trend,

You may be able to partition the thumbdrive under linux. I have a 6-in-1 usb reader and have used fdisk on both SD and CF cards. I deleted a vfat partition on a friends SD card and put a linux ext2 partition and filesystem on it for his Zaurus.
