Should I just buy the block mounting kit here (http://www.d-tekcustoms.com/product.asp?0=204&1=236&3=59) for $6.50. Or should I go to the trouble of putting on together on my own via home depot? The block I am currently making myself. Also, are springs really neccesary?

Someone please answer this. What the difference between the maze2 & 2-1 mounting hardware, and the mounting hardware for the maze2-2?

Springs ARE necessary, uless you enjoy crushed cores:)

Springs help a LOT by distributing the mounting pressure, especially during the mounting process itself.

You could also use a precision torque driver.

Either way, tighten down each bolt only slightly before moving on to the next bolt. I recommend a cross-cross pattern.

I just made my own spring hold-down using 6-32 rods, #6 washers, springs(had some already) and some 6-32 nuts and wingnuts. I also used a full plate of 1/4 copper on the back of the mobo to prevent mobo warpage. Used plastic insulating sheet from old PSU between copper & mobo.

here's how i'm gonna clamp mine. springs are probably the best option. once you find out yer spring constant (the store you bought it at should have 'em displayed) you can calculate force/distance, and get the exact clamping pressure you want. for an athlonxp, 30 lbs is the MAX, they say 24 for single clip heatsinks, i'm goin' for 28.

cut and paste this link..... take out the **'s

if it doesn't work, tell me.

just clicking on it worked for me but dont you think that is excessive on the rubber things

How much am I going to save by taking the time to put a kit together on my own? And do you think it will work better than the kit I mentioned? I am leaning toward just buying that one and not having to worry about it.

i dont thinks it will make a difference in the world

the rubber things are so that i don't have metal digging at my mobo pcb with 12 lbs of pressure... is has a rubber washer between the pcb and teh end of the bolt. i guess if you want that on yer board go for it, but i'll use some rubber washers to protect the back of my mobo.

i would suggest making yer own, it might cost more or less, i dunno... but you can be sure that it'll be better if you know what u put in it.

i just use little plastic washers

Home Depot sells metal washers with rubber attached on one side. Work well for bolts-thru-motherboard applications.
