View Full Version : Status of the forth coming FX family?
I've just skimmed through the new issue of PCZone (UK) and noticed previews of 5200 & 5600 Ultra FX based cards.
Are these the equivelent to the 4200 and 4400 Ti's or will they be more like the GF4 MX series, i.e ****e?
TIA, Xune.

I think they're supposed to replace the GF4Ti series. Performing about the same but with DX9. F is sounding more like M every day.
AFAIK they are is cryostasis, awaiting ATI to magically flop over and die so that some of these cards might actually be sold.

The 5600, and 5600 Ultra would be the equivilent to your Ti4200 and Ti4400 (in the fact that they are the mainstream cards), and the 5200 and 5200 Ultra are your MX's. The 5600 and the 5200 are both poor performers, with ther 5600 Ultra being trumped by ATi's performance mainstream (the 9500 Pro), and though the 5200 does beat the 9000, and i think 9100 cards, we have yet to see how it will fare against the 9200

We really have yet to see how any of them will perform, since all we're seen are pre-production cards.
The same thing happened when ATi first introduced the 9500. It performed like crap in pre-production.
Ah! Gotcha.
Thanks Evnas.

Well, true as it is, the 9600 NP/P will probably be performing worse than the 9500 Pro also since they have half the pipelines as do the FX cards. If that's the case, I think we will see few if any 9600/5600's selling, with people buying 9500 Pros left and right.
The 9200/9600/9800 cards replace the 9000/9500/9700. I doubt you'll be able to get 9500s for long after the 9600s are out in volume. ATI doesn't want to compete with themselves.
So if you want a 9500pro I'd get it soon.
