In the interest of myself and others who have questions about getting above 166, it seems we need to catergorize our results to determine if there is a pattern evolving with the Albatron PX845PEV. This is pretty comprehensive, so I would like everyone to take their time and not miss anything.

1. What color is the box your Alby came in?

2. What Bios do you currently use?

3. What is your P4 STOCK Speed?

4. What is your P4 OVERCLOCK Speed?

5. What is the fsb of your P4 Overclock?

6. Do you use the manual divide the pci or use the 66/33 lock?

6a. If you use the maual divide, what is the current setting?

7. What is your current video card installed?

8. How much memory to you have installed?

9. What is the stock memory setting (ex: 333)?

10. What is the overclocked memory setting?

11. What are your current memory settings (ex: 2-6-3-3)?

Thanks for your time!

The intent was to post to the thread below, but well..saving this one.

Well I'm sticking my nose in here to save the thread, still waiting for parts: Have Purple box/2.66/ CoolerMaster 1HC-H71/Twinmos PC3700 512mg Win/466(one double sided chip:)/Antec True430w/Video~In question, prob ATI 9800 Pro {On hand GX3 Ti 450 Gainwood "Golden sample"}/~Landscape prob LaCie 22" (Very high refresh rate) Will MOD the NB. Seems 1.10b, but will prob mod that as well.

Sorry, if this upset anyone!

Here's another Px845PEV Pro:

1. Orange box

2. R1.08 (I think)

3. 2.8Ghz

4. 3.133Ghz (or so).

5. It's an unlocked chip, so I've had the fsb everywhere between 140Mhz and 205Mhz. Right now it's at 174Mhz, as the 2.5x mem multiplier seems to give the best throughput.

6. 66/33

7. Some Geforce 2 MX400

8. 512M

9. XMS 3500C2

10. 435Mhz

11. 2-7-3-3

I just set mine up, so am not ready to talk about the OC max. Gonna burn it in slow before going high.

Just want to add a couple of suggestions.
When describing your memory, it's important to tell us:

1) how many sticks are being used, e.g. 1x512mb, 2x256mb, etc
2) if they are double or single sided modules
3) what slots are they in. Consider 1 is closest to the cpu, and 3 is farthest from the cpu.

Other questions that could be of interest are:
1) what is cooling the cpu
2) what is cooling the NB

Will try for 190 fsb and 200fsb later this week

Hey speedo68, did your board come with the 1.09 bios? On albatron's ftp the only 1.09 bioses are in the gev directory, but there are 2 different ones 45pg109 and 45pgv109, so perhaps the 45pgv109 is actually for this board... (but then again maybe the bioses are interchangeable anyway)

1) how many sticks are being used, e.g. 1x512mb, 2x256mb, etc-1x512
2) if they are double or single sided modules-double
3) what slots are they in. Consider 1 is closest to the cpu, and 3 is farthest from the cpu. started in dim 1 called OCZ and Bo suggested 3-no change in unclockability

Other questions that could be of interest are:
1) what is cooling the cpu alpha 8942 and TT smartfan-pushing(tried pulling but hadn't seen this forum suggesting temp sensors all screwed up----
2) what is cooling the NB-nothing/fact thermal pad

I would prefer to have the alpha pulling-experiencee suggests??-AC3 will be installed today on the NB. CPU @ stock volt 1.525 OCZ @2.8(suggested by OCZ) Absolutely not stable at 433 and setting any voltage---hey guys what about memory refresh rate????

This is the 2nd PX845PEV pro that I've had. I some how killed the PCI bus on the first one. Not sure how, possibly static discharge damage. I could not get a decent OC with either board using my PIV 2.66. I could OC to 150 fsb, and was stable with Prime95 and CPU Burn (12 hrs), but 3dMark would crash immediately. CPU and GPU are watercooled.

You know, I came damn close to frying my PCI as well. I'm not sure how, but it seems the Frequency/Voltage section of the bios was returned to defaults, which changed the PCI lock to disabled(not locked!). I know I didn't do it myself. When I found my freq and voltages that way, I changed all the settings that I had been playing around with but didn't consider the PCI lock.
Then, at 170fsb, I formatted an empty partition in NTFS, I installed UT2K3, set my settings and proceeded to play. No sound. Couldn't figure it out at first. After checking everything related to sound, I decided to lower my OC and that's when I found my PCI was no longer locked. Freaked me out. I'm lucky I didn't fry my drives or sound or everything on the bus when doing the format and install. They were running on 43Mhz. Holy crud!

Seems ok now. After locking the PCI, my sound is back and all is well.

So, check that PCI lock. Don't leave it at disabled, set it to 66/33.

My PCI problem was a little different. It started out as file corruption on my C drive after running Prime95 for 12 hrs at 150fsb. I didn't have much on the disk at the time, so I figured that I'd just format and reinstall XP. Every thing was fine until I tried to install drivers for the PCI LAN card, the onboard LAN, or for my sound card. The drivers for the chipset, and the vid card installed just fine. No matter what source I used, I just could not load drivers for the PCI cards. Windows kept telling me it could not find the correct drivers. Device manager did recognize the cards, but told me there were no drivers loaded. I they flashed the bios, set the bios at default settings, formatted and reinstalled XP again. This time the problem got worse. Not only could I not load the PCI card drivers or the onboard LAN drivers, but Device manager was now only seeing them as 'unknown PCI devices'. The onboard sound, vid and chipset drivers still worked though.

It gets even more interesting after I got a new Albatron. All the drivers loaded just fine, and device manager saw the cards for what they were. However if I went to play a game, my system would reboot. I finally figured out it was my Acoustic Edge. So I pulled it out and used the onboard sound. At least for a while. About a week latter I picked up MoH AA, installed and patched it. It played fine for about 20 minutes and than I lost all sound. If I quit and restarted the game I would get the sound back, but it would drop of again. The time periods before the drop off got shorter and shorter. The game would continue to play just fine, but no sound. And it was only games that would loose the sound, music and video were just fine. I formatted and reinstalled every thing, and the problem persisted. I even tried newer drivers from Realtek but they didn't help either. Finally I went out and bought a Herc Fortissimo III, and knock on wood every thing looks to be working fine now. I have to say that my experience with Albatron so far has been less then stellar. My problems with the first board were probably self induced, my inability to OC may lie entirely with the CPU, and to sound problem could be due to poor drivers, but then again I might of just got 2 flaky boards. If this one continues to stay stable at stock speeds I'll be happy until my next upgrade.

Hey bob63, you are the first person who seems to have sound issues similar to mine. You problems doesn't sound as severe as mine, but see if you can borrow a geforce video card and see if that fixes the onboard sound. I don't know why but my onboard sound doesn't work with my radeon, but does work with a geforce4, and the sound works fine with a pci sound card.
