I just bought 3 for $711 i couldn't pass up on the chance. Lets hope they won't change the price on us. It is listed as New Factory Sealed on pricvewatch. /prays
holy cow I just got one..$237 shipped is an excellent deal. If you look on Ebay they REGULARLY go for $450-$500 before shipping....so you could get 10, (someone front me some $$), $2370 total...sell 10 on Ebay for $500 shipped and make a profit (after shipping) of $2400!
got this from their site
"All pricing, shipping payment information is subject to change without notice. Final order specifications and amounts, including tax and shipping, will be communicated following receipt of your online order.
Techonweb.com will not be responsible for typographical or other errors or omissions regarding prices or other information. Products displayed are available to US customers who take delivery in the 50 United States. All sales are subject to Techonweb.com's Term and Conditions of Sale. "
So assuming this is a typographical error, they prolly won't honor it? hehe with their good reseller rating, I sure damn well hope so! :D
sucks though that they say that pricing is subject to change without notice....hehe we'll see on Monday when Techonweb.com employees come in and find out that they are suddenly out of VG800's and assume a loss of approximately $240 each...:)
I unfortunately am going to expect an email from their sales reps tomorrow (Monday) explaining blah blah blah blah....sounds like the government :D

I was just looking at there site further, they have another viewsonic 18" LCD model VE800 with "savings" of $215. So i'm asusming someone goofed and put the savings price in the wrong spot. If so that would mean the savings listed is the actual price $499. Bummer......

I know this is off topic but can anyone recommend a better camera then Nikon Coolpix 4300 $400 shipped. Ranked #2 overall at PC world. If so PM me.

Need the name of that "someone" so we can thank him..heh...
But in most cases retailers do honor their goof-ups, right?

04-06-03, 09:24 AM
No, in most cases online retailers don't honor price goofs. Yeah, I saw this on Fatwallet and Anandtech earlier, so I bought one for the heck of it...worst they can do is just cancel the order. If it comes, it's a good deal for an average LCD, and I'll give it to my dad or sell it on fleabay..who knows.. :)
I wouldn't be surprised to see all these orders cancelled come Monday, because there are Hot deals, and then there are just plain pricing screw-ups, which they don't have to honor. Especially since they'll probably sell about 8,000 of these by then. LOL!!!

hey guys, on this LCD, would it be ok as far as refreshes go for playing games, i know you need a certain ammount for it to look right on an LCD.
I don't think this would be too bad for games...I mean first of all, Viewsonic is one of the best there is out there. Its like the Cadillac's of monitors, plus their 3 year warranty is also pretty commendable. Obviously for games, CRT's are best but the combination of the quality and the price for this LCD (if it is indeed the price) would make it an ideal setup.
mattspalace
04-06-03, 10:45 AM
the only real downside to this LCD is the lack of DVI I/O. I'm not sure about ghosting on this particular model, but it's probably decent. But for ~$240 shipped (maybe) it's a good deal. LCD's REALLY need the DVI to perform to their full potential.
I just ordered to see. Most likely we won't get anything, but they could give us a discount or coupon.

Is there a coupon code you need to enter? If not they must have changed it, says it's 516 now :(
damn that would have been nice, I woulda had a nice dual monitor setup :(
if the deal does go thru, yes it will be a good gammer cuzz its the VG model of viewsonic, Video Graphics.

Yup, always worth a shot. I didn't think I'd get the XP home software from googlegear, because it was a price mistake, but they actually sent it to me. Of course this (the LCD) is a much bigger screw up because XP Home was supposed to be about 95 dollars, but I got it for 62.50 shipped.

I already placed the order for one...not really interested in it, just was a good buy..but figure I'll refuse whatever offer they'll toss at me just cos I don't need an 18" lcd...
Are you guys going to post at resellerrating?
Legally, these guys should have to make good on the deal. Disclaimers about typographical errors not withstanding, the time to invoke that gambit is before they've taken your money. If you presented a valid credit card for payment, then the moment they accepted your card number for processing, you became the owner of the goods purchased. They'll try to claim that the card hasn't been processed, but this is like somebody accepting your card for payment in a store, and then tearing up the paperwork before it is processed, then claiming you didn't purchase the goods. Think about it. We shouldn't some cheap gift certificate buyoff. We should insist they complete the terms implicit in the sales contract. They offered something for sale at a given price, we met that price and they accepted our money. At this point, the merchandise belongs to us. Maybe we should get organized and threaten legal action. Any lawyers out there ?

AFAIK if you agree to these terms when you place your order (which you have to) then they are exercising thier legal right to refuse or cancel any orders for typographical errors. You'd be hard pressed and in my honest opinion a jackazz for trying to pursue this further, it was worth a shot, leave it at that.
got no email yet, but went online to their website to check on the status of my order and my status was VOID.
Hehe oh well...
If they were a physical bricks & mortar retail establishment, we'd easely win the typographical error..but since this is online and they do have a disclaimer protecting them from their own stupid mistakes...hehe it was worth a shot...

I don't think people should go bash them on resellerratings. It was a simple pricing error, and if they did honor all the purchases they would be pretty much out of buisness since ~1000 people ordered this. Its posted on all the deal forums and these pricing errors happen all the time. Don't get a lawyer and don't get mad that you arn't able to take advantage of the websites error.
Seriously just move on, and for those who actually expectded to recieve this well...if something seems to good to be true....
Mine says void also. To good to be true.
My order was cancelled this morning..typographical error, blah, blah, blah..sent them this in response;
This is completely unacceptable. You offered a product for sale, I paid for it with a credit card you accepted, you issued me an order and invoice number, at this point the merchandise purchased belongs to me. Though the order is still in your physical possession, it's your responsibility to uphold your end of the sales contract by delivering the merchandise promised. The time to invoke your typographical error disclaimer is before purchase is made, not after. An analogous situation would be if you were to purchase something in a store using a credit card, and then the vendor refuses to process the charge and claims you didn't purchase the goods. Clearly your position on this cannot be defended. I guess that by using your self-serving typographical error disclaimer, you could void sales long after they've taken place, if you think you sold too cheaply. Reputable merchants honor their sales contracts, and we have a sales contract.I'm looking into legal remedies to encourage you to honor your sales contract.
I suggest you all send them similiar replies. When you think about it, it's really their problem. We held up our end of the deal. If they dont respond, we should use our invoice #'s to appropriately lower their reseller ratings..

I bet you wouldn't be happy if you had to send someone a 600$ lcd for 200$. Im guessing this company isn't that big, and honoring something like this would put them out of buisness.
People stop giving them bad reseller reviews since it was a typo nothing more, and this has happened at MANY other online retailers.
It seems pretty immature and selfish of you guys to try and get this and then complain that YOU are the one getting ripped off.

NO, THEY DON'T. I don't suppose any of you remember the same kind of typo posted on Best Buy's site last year. The SAME WHINING ensued. The fact is, nobody admitted that they would like it very much if they were the business that had to make good on such a mistaken offer. Look, you gave it a shot, and it didn't work out.
- - - GET OVER IT. - - -
Easy there mbigna.............You are right though. Everyone make mistakes and it was just a typo. It was worth a shot and now you all know it was too good to be true. It's all over. No need to bash on them. Let's move on and talk about overclocking!!! :)
Yeah, well Dell made good on some money losing deals involving WD HD's last year, so it is possible to do the right thing and still remain in business. It seems to me at least the offer of a GC would have been appropriate, seeing as how their screw-up got a lot of people excited, got them to commit their money, waste their time, and then smashed their little hopes and hearts to the ground with their cold cancellation notice. Sorry you didn't get your order in in time, mbigna..BTW guys, what do you figure the wholesale cost on those monitors were ?
Their rating sure is going down. I didn't get an email yet, but I hope I get credited back if they charged me. I don't think they did this on purpose, since their previous rating was nearly perfect. Just as long as you don't get spammed, you shouldn't give them a bad rating. I was hoping for a $10 GC, but you can't really get something for nothing. Contacting your laywer is kind of going over board, but everybody has a right to whine about this if they want. After all, we all knew this would be a controversy bit if we did or didn't get the lcd.

There is a difference bwtween a mom and pop shop or something resembling it and DELL and Best Buy. Can we say corporation? Dell has the enough buying power that it can lose a few thousands.
I know for a fact that 90% of those people that ordered it knew before hand that it was a mistake and 85% had an idea that it would be cancelled.
Maybe they should have been a bit nicer but still...
mbigna, in regards to the Best Buy, they were in the wrong. The difference between the two is that BB actually honored the deal to half the people that ordered but cancelled the other half. That in itself is against the law. Aka favoring X people while not Y people. For this company they did not send out any of the monitors I bet.

i was THIS close to buying one last night but had a good idea that it was too good to be true.
also, you can't legally do anything about it.
but, you can legally talk about it.
so i think that they did it on purpose to get recognized. have a hot item on some super sale, advertise it on a popular search engine, recieve 100,000 hits in less than 12 hours, half those hits add you to their favorites, 25% memorize the site or carve out shortcuts to get there (like this forum) which = you get people comming back to check out the website. so if you get 3% of those 100,000 hits come back and purchase something on the website, you made money.:p

I got got the cancellation email too, of course, but I figured it would be coming...
I really don't know why everyone is getting worked up about them not honoring their price. Every online site has the option to cancel all orders when a pricing error has been made, and we all knew this was a pricing error. Had this site honored the price they listed, it probably would have caused them to go bankrupt as I'm sure they sold several thousand of these monitors at a cost that's well below what they pay for them..
Legally there's nothing anyone can do, as their pricing policy is clearly stated in their support section.
Just look at it as it was worth a shot, but probably not going to happen.

well guys it was worth a try, I believe they do have the right to cancel the orders as long as they didnt send a monitor out to anyone. If even one monitor was sent then I believe they would have to send them to everyone, if they didnt go bankrupt first:D . But really guys, this still seems to be a really great distributer, dont count a typo made by one person ( who prolly got fired) against the whole company.
i wonder if the person who updates prices is getting chewed out.

Why is that against the law? Linkage? Perhaps Best Buy only had limited stock and fulfilled the orders in a first come/first served basis. Nothing wrong there that I can figure. [Now, I can't even remember what it was Best Buy was advertising...]
Don't get me wrong here, people. I'm in for a good deal like that as much as the next guy/gal. I'm the one who is first in line at Best Buy at 5 am on Black Friday. AND I do my best to be the first to post the best deals here whenever I find them. [How many of you are waiting on WinXP Pro - $400 retail - for FREE (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=182645)? (You are welcome.)]
I just don't think threatening to sue or whining is called for in circumstances where there is likely nothing more to it than an accidental typo. You take your shot and if the seller wants to maintain goodwill and can afford the loss, GREAT! But what good is customer loyalty if you have no company left to do business? There is just no reason to draw and quarter this seller just because someone put the wrong price in the wrong field.

DISCLAIMER: Those of you who have never made any mistakes in your life can disregard this rant.
the BB thing was over gf4 ti4600's, they had a preorder page listing them as $129, I actually was one of the people who ordered one, got a confirmation on that, etc etc. the thing was when people went into stores, some got their cards, some people were kicked out, and BB tried to have others arrested for fraud....

look DIPSTICK all I'm saying is that a little love was in order...
I'm definitely not saying they should take the RAPING on that rediculous price but I am saying they should've at least offered to sell them at cost or offer some deal...
yeah accidents do happen, we're all human but we all have to pay a certain price for our mistakes (or here's an idea for us, the american public, take responsibilty for our own actions... novel, truly novel), well, that and people don't like to be ****ed with...
they didn't play their cards right and they're going to rightfully pay for it...

Ah, yeah--thanks for jogging my memory. Yes, Best Buy made a few mistakes AFTER the typo that didn't exactly engender goodwill among their customers. Actually, my local Best Buy has been a champ about taking care of any problems (including rebates) that I have had. Best Buy's fault is that it deals with things like this inconsistently from store to store. Still, Best Buy shouldn't be taken to task just because they made a typo, either. Surely, those who were accused of fraud must have a bone to pick. Though, a) I don't know if any such reports were actually CONFIRMED or just stories spread to inflame others against Best Buy and b) no doubt, some of the respondents probably came into the store with a chip on their sholders demanding to see managers and demanding that the retail store honor the online store's mistake. Those that came in with the understanding that it was an honest mistake and took a conciliatory tone probably had better luck making good on those deals--or at least getting some concessions. You can attract more flies with a bowl of honey than with a pile of s**t.

Got my cancellation notice email as well. They never charged my card, just held the funds. Nothing i didn't expect. Was worth a shot. I feel for the person who made that goof. I wouldn't want to be in there shoes now. Kinda cra@@y to screw there Reseller rating over a typo. Not like we didn't have typo's in school, hell plenty in these forums. It happens.

I hope we don't see some advertising gimmick here..
How convenient it would be to make a mistake like this..

I wouldn't worry about it. How often do we hear about ridiculous deals like this? Not often! I doubt the companies relish the amount of hate-mail they receive for making such a mistake only once.
If, however, we see someone doing this once every couple of months or so, then I'd say we have a problem with that vendor!
I bet you that guy who messed up on that price is getting chewed up....

ADMIN NOTES.
This retailer made a pricing mistake on a single item on 4/5 and corrected it on 4/6. Those who had their orders cancelled tried to retaliate against the merchant by leaving negative feedback here. Such retaliation and bashing is against our policies and all such reviews have been, and/or will be, removed.
honestly, what did you guys think was going to happen?

Yfan might actually get his product then if they do not give his money back ^^
no...i got the cancellation email too :(
have you guys seen the new rating? Its back up to the 9's. Although it "MAY" have been a pricing error, the way in which they handled the sutation certainly doesn't warrant a no consequence outcome. At least reseller rating could have left their rating in the 8's.

LOL sorry that just too funny. Atleast one good thing might of came from that article.
If possible, however, it's our recommendation that you should offer those customers a discount on a future order as an apology for the error."
maybe you guys will be getting a coupon code afterall:)

Im curious, did resellerratings eliminate -all- LCD related posts? Including the Very Satisfieds defending them? It's only fair that they go as well.
Interestingly, that $216 price was within the realm of possibility-for instance, local Frye's here is offering a 17"lcd for $269 today- so characterizing us as "carpetbagging crybabies" seems a little harsh. I guess in the future we always have to wonder if reseller ratings has made an "editorial adjustment" on its numbers. You'd have thunk the least the retailer could have done is offer the monitor to those who ordered, at their wholesale price and a fair shipping rate, (they were charging top dollar for ground shipping, + charging me calif. state sales tax, which calif. will never see and I'm sure would have gone straight into their pockets. I cant cry any tears over this poor retailer. They could have handled this deal fairly at little or no expense to themselves.
BTW guys, it seems lately that everytime I order something out of state that they charge me calif. sales tax, even though the budsinesses I'm ordering from have no outlet in calif., and there's no law forcing them to send the tax along to calif. Any of you noticing the same thing ?
I'm not wasting my time editing this entire post since it's 90% filth and 10% thought-out opinion.
If I see another thread of this sort from you it will have been a displeasure knowing you as you will no longer be welcome in these forums. The filter IS NOT to be circumvented. It is there for a reason.

spanko, i suggest you change some of the language in that post... remember, there are younger readers in these forums, and people who generally don't want to read that kind of thing (such as myself) please try to moderate yourself in the future
NOTE: i mean NO offence to you, but try to watch the language. thanks :)

RR.com has stepped over the line period
they have a disclaimer that protects them from such mistakes. and this disclaimer you agree to every time you place your order with them. so legally they can't be touched for such screw ups like this.
but morally they should have sold the orders that were already placed prior to the correction, by offering the monitors at dealer cost! ok so they dont make money, but they do make their wharehouse where they purchase the monitors happy! and they could have gotten incentives/rebates at the end of the year for selling a certain amount of inventory. i have had experience in the retail/wholesale industry where you actually get cash back at the end of the year for the amount of inventory you sell. the automotive industry practices such tactics, often.
and people who generally don't want to read that kind of thing (such as myself) please try to moderate yourself
is it ok if he makes an edit to his post and inserts, "poopoohead" in place of the actual swear words? maybe that wont offend you.
If they charge your credit card you have done business and your reseller rating SHOULD remain. Unless the post is slander (and being pee'd off because of what is at best an unrepentant mistake and at worst a con to get traffic to their site and email addresses would not be slander). I'll bet Digitally Unique (the 167$ 9700 pro where they sold it at cost to the persons who got disappointed) is kicking themselves for actually trying to make right on the 9700 pro deal when they could have just whined at resellerratings now.
Incidentally. Wasn't this price listed at pricewatch? Don't you have to submit prices to pricewatch?

Nothing like submitting an erroneous price to pricewatch, posting the same price on your website, calculating the "savings" with the erroneous price, gaining 100k hits in a matter of hours. "Selling out of stock" on a fabulous monitor, and complaining to resellerratings because you couldn't hold up your end of the bargain. I love capitalism.
It just upsets me, that this -is- something to note about a reseller. There should be some form of note, or summary of what happened on their resellerratings site. If I was considering purchasing something at an amazing price from a website, I'd like to know if they had previously had these amazing prices, and then jacked them back up after said item was ordered.
There is a note... It's very biased though, not even noting the possibility that this was anything other than an honest mistake.
As to how long the note will remain there... I doubt it is permanent.
And incidentally, it already has two "Unspecified" item Very dissatisfied ratings. This was the worst thing resellerratings could have done. Because now the reseller will get a poopy rating of people saying things like... "I ordered an item from techonweb. They seemed like a reputable dealer. However, when I received the item, it was horribly damaged. I was not worried at first. I was sure that they would replace it. It was definitly damaged due to inadequate packing. I called them, and they said that they always pack well. And that any damage was completely due to MY behavior! I was shocked and amazed. DO NOT TRUST THIS DEALER. THEY ARE HORRIBLE! BUYER BEWARE!!" instead of what they honestly deserve which is ratings of people saying what actually happened.
Think I should contact them, mention that those of us on a forum I frequent thought it'd be nice if they offered those who ordered their wholesale price on this monitor ? Couldn't hurt..and it'd be interesting to see how they respond.

I don't think so. They will probably give RR the invoice numbers of the lcd orders. So when one of those lcd invoice numbers is used, then RR will delete the rating. That's the only logical way going about this.

lol!
i don't understand why they just dont sell them at their cost. it would make their wharehouse pretty happy if they all of a sudden placed an order of 1,000 of these at once.
besides, they will get bulk discount if they order certain amount of goods, so they should make at least 5% proffit.
Like I said b4, only 1% discount. LOL
