Has anyone had any experience with achieve power supplies? i found on at frozen cpu with sleeving on it here. http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/psu-19.html Does anyone know if it is any good? If not, does anyone know of a good one with at least 450 watts sleeved for about this price? Any help would be appreciated.

Couldn't find much info at all on these units, but from the specs it looks like a decent 500w unit... pretty much comparable to Antec's True 550, except the brand name is an unknown.

Unless someone else posts claiming serious problems with these I say go for it. I would personally try though looking for the Sparkle or CWT 500w+ units, which should hopefully fit into that price range as well.

I had a 300watt Acheive power supply. It surged and fried my hard-drive. I don't know if it was just the unit or the brand. IMO, go for another band, but my opinion is biased.

Fried hard drives aren't a good sign - tells me these things don't have the overcurrent and overvoltage protection they should have, so I'll have to reverse my earlier advice and say avoid it like the plague :p

Thats what I was worried about. I've spent way too much money on this system to fry the whole thing or even 1 component. Any ideas on where to get on that is already sleeved and is a decent price?

Then you've also spent way too much money to let the presence or absense of sleeving play a significant role in the selection...

Do yourself a favor and pick up a Fortron Sparkle 350 or 400, or an Antec True Power 380 or up. You don't need 500W, and trying to get a supply that has this big a number pasted on the side for a modest cost just insures you will get junk.

I'd go for what Larva said.

Wait, don't abandon all hope yet.:D I have that very same Achieve 500w(w/o those "sleeves"), and it only cost me ~$35. Not only that, but it powers my dually. Here's the specs:

Dual Xp 1700's @ 1875mhz
MSI k7d master
32x Cd-rw
8x Cd-rom
8 Fans
3 pci cards
GF4 ti4200
LED lit Rheobus

Its does pretty well, with my setup, I'd say its a pretty decent PSU, and DEFINITELY can't be beat for $36 shipped.

You can get it for $36 shipped, here (http://www.buypcdirect.com/product.asp?pf_id=PSP4500W)

I'd still go with a fortron 350, or a sparkle 400. But it's your computer.

That isn't a bad deal if it all works right.

Bah, I'll take one of these over it any day...

I've got a hair dryer that makes 1200W, 1200W of heat. It probably comes as close to making 500W of power as that supply does. Don't believe everything you read. I'm glad it's working out for you, but don't that doesn't mean it makes anything like 500W, doesn't mean a Fortron 300W wouldn't do better, and doesn't mean that it's the best supply for the money. And there isn't really any reason to restrict yourself to a $36 dollar supply anyway. XP Direct has the 120mm fan equipped 350 Sparkle for $45, and that is nine dollars you shouldn't try to save.
