View Full Version : Sound Problem, Suggestions?

This is going to sound more complicated than it actually is:

When I am watching any form of video (DVD, DiVX, plain .mpg, or .avi) or even listening to .mp3's - the sound/video studders randomly and lasts for .025s to about 2 whole seconds depending on how fast I can get to the mouse. It wouldn't be so annoying if XViD movies with the AC3 weren't encoded at such a low volume and the studder seems to use the full volume. ?? Like it is 'tripping' or something. I suspect mouse issues, or something causing issues during the idle state.

It has nothing to do with power saving, or any screen savers as they are all turned off. It can't be a conflict of other cards as it does that when they are disabled, or completely removed.

As a big clue, it only started doing this after SP1 was released. It may also have something to do with the SB Live! drivers that are out right now, as I have read them to be quite buggish.

My system is listed in sig as is.

Maybe you should reinstall the SB drivers and see if thatll help.

Yep. Try that. I don't know how updated you are with the Creative drivers but they recently got new drivers (Well Febuary).

I have as updated as they get... I'm on top of that.. I don't think its the sound blaster.. I think there's something wrong with the idle...

...whenever the mouse doesn't move it tends to do it more often....

It definitely sounds like something is conficting with the sound drivers- you MAY have some luck forcing the card to use different resources (irq/dma, etc.) although it may be an issue that only drivers can fix.

I wanted to send you a PM or email, a c i d.f l y, but neither are possible for you right now (user settings?) so I must mention this here:
Your sig is too big!

Please get it down to size :)

NIC is sharing IRQ's with the video.. I am guessing that could be causing issues... dunno, though.. cuz it did it with no NIC in the computer. Soundcard is using IRQ19, nothing else using it, from the viewable window anyway... should I download the most recent drivers, and uninstall all current software, and then install the updated?...

*attempts deleting NIC to get new IRQ for it*
