Could someone please list the differences? I have seen several articles saying the springdale doesn't have all of the features but none listing what those are.

Thanks

No problem, and welcome to the forums.

The only major difference is in memory. Both have dual channel DDR support, but the Canterwood (875P) is designed to be used on server motherboards and for that reason it supports ECC memory. The Springdale (865PE) chipset is for desktop systems and can't run ECC memory.

The Canterwood chipsets also have a memory performance booster not found on the Springdale. Its intended to overcome a performance hit that comes with using ECC memory, but most people believe it will boost non-ECC memory and that is appealing to some users. However, we're talking about a small boost in memory benchmark tests and an even smaller advantage in application benchmarks. In real money, the performance you see on your monitor, I will be amazed if you can see any difference between the memory performance of the two chipsets.

Quick question, when you say the above, does the reference to "server motherboards" mean mobo's that suport two or more cpu's?

- Thanks

no this means they are extremely stable and have all the high end parts to make sure nothing crashes. also means they accept Error correcting ram (ECC).
