I have this laptop I got from my mom the model # PS/S CL57sx if I turn it on and after it finds the 64k high memeory are is avalibale it gives me a drivers not installed microsoft mouse not found. @ that point I cant do anything else on the other hand if I put in any of the driver diskes it gives me the lock and you have to hit enter then type the password then press enter again according to the manual my problem is I have no idea if this laptop is any good or if I could even use it for anything.


P.S. ANY HELP HELP HELP would be great.


Also it has a 50 mhz microprocesser LOL

Plain and simple, the answer is no. You cannot use it for anything. 50MHz is simply too low to do anything practical nowadays. Even the lightest versions of Linux will struggle on 50MHz.

All I really want to do with it is be able to type and save the typing to a disk or even learn dos alittle if I cant do anything with it why would they have made it in it's day it had to have surved some kinda good.

You can run Windows 95 on it, I know that. Bring back a little bit of Windows 3.11 too I spose. :)

Windows 3.1 is all you're going to be able to use. 95 would flop on that thing. Your best bet is going to be to use a really light version of Linux. DOS will do, but Linux will let you do more with what little power you have. I've never tried to find a version of Linux like this, but I know there are some versions that will run from a few floppies. Check www.sourceforge.com. They should have some good info there about light Linux versions.

Windows 95 will be able to run on that, it'll be slow, but it'll run. I've seen it run on a 386DX (33MHz w/a Math Coprocessor). How much RAM is on that latop 8mb? or 4?
