OK so I was checking out the new OPGA package that AMD have added to the technical specs on their website when I glanced over at the Electrical and Thermal Specs of the 681 and there quite clearly it references a XP1600 (the Tbred A or 680 doesnt mention this speed). What do you reckon a NEW low end Tbred B? Although this kind of flies in the face of the supposed end of line theory for the lower end cpus I reckon that was merely for palominos.

Doubtful. Amd often has cpu's refrenced in white papers that never see the light of day.

This is not a white paper but their latest Data Sheet (twice revised in March and both times revisions were made to the Electrical and Thermal data I am talking about - one was presumably for inclusion of the lower voltage XP1700's).

There has been talk and a road map that includes Thortons (XP's) - though AMD are said to have denied the existance of such a chip.
Still, there has been a link on these pages to an Abit bios update that refers to Thorton.
The 1700+ & 1800+ DLT3C's could be Thortons and are to be joined by a 1600+ for the budget end - replacing Duron. ? : / ?

i hope the guy who will buy my XP1700+ will push thru ..... i do suspect there might be 1600+ T-bred ..... a few months ago XP1600+ 's were practically gone in the major shops specially the shop claiming to be the only "AMD center" here then all of a sudden i saw them again in their pricelist just last month i think ..... considering that they are selling T-bred XP1700+ DLT3C JIUHB's here .... and the lower end XP's are the most sellable here i'm am inclined to assume there wouldn't be anymore 1600+ pally's ..... i have been suspecting it might be t-breds ..... that is actually what i want to see on my next cpu hunting trip this week hehehhee

OC Detective,
You know that AMD discountinued the 1700+, 1800+, 1900+ and 2000+ Thoroughbred processors right?
After a quick email, we now know that AMD only produces the XP2100+ T-bred B as the slowest CPU being manufactured as I'm typing this.
My guess is they want people to buy the 2400+ and Barton CPUs now since there trying to produce more of those now.
A while back, there was a thread that had talked about this same situation. People thought that it was only the Palominos that were discountinued but both you and I know that those CPUs were discountinued far long ago.
BUT! it could be possible that a few 1600+ T-bred B's with that new cemetric fabrication could have made it to the market. Maybe there was like 90,000 made or something so they had enough to fill the market all around.

Maybe the 1600+'s will be very rare chips that can't even do 2100+ speeds stably, but they don't want to just toss, so they sell themas 1600+'s? Or maybe they are mobile chips running a really low voltage?

Yes I know and stated as much in my original post. Just curious but people are obviously still getting XP1700's so I am wondering what is the date code on them right now.
One thing I forgot to mention is that I check the AMD specs on a regular basis and the last time I checked which was March the Thermal and Electrical specs did not have the XP1600 included, so it was only recently added and the specs are for desktop XP so will not be for mobile.
