Using the "Speed fan" prog one of my hard drives shows up as 70c:eek: . Now I have to drives in my rig both are exactly the same(30 g maxtor). Speed fan shows one as 40c and the other as 70c.....tghis is about average temps. I always assumed that speed fan was getting the temps wrong. I mean if the drive was 70c I prob could not touch it w/ out getting burned. It is definately warm but not as hot as my heat sink..what gives? Now is there another prog I can use to verify temps of my HD's?

Sisoft sandra (http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=&location=latestver&langx=en&a=) can report what the S.M.A.R.T data for the drives is currently at, as well as a bunch of other useful things about your hardware and software.

And because the thermal probe is inside the drive it can get that hot and not feel it to the touch. Make sure the little hole that says do not cover, Isnt.
