View Full Version : Best O/C memory for P4C800
1) I just ordered a P4C800 & P4 3GHz 800MHz. I've been looking into memory that will allow me to o/c this new CPU to (hopefully) 4GHz.
In order to do this safely, I need a module that's rated at 533MHz.
I haven't been able to find them anywhere.
The closest I can come is a PC3700 from Geil or Corsair.
Your not gonna find anyone selling RAM rated at 533 ;) Doesnt exist.. entering the realm of DDR-II there ;)
Corsair XMS3500, Geil PC3700, OCZ3700 and Twinmoss PC3700 are the fastest available. I think (don't hold me to this ;) ), that they all use overclocked 5ns chips apart from the Twinmoss offering, which use 4.3ns.
I'm buying a Abit IC7-G and 2.40C 800-HT (although I'm being tempted to buy a 3.0C 800-HT, as I can get it now at a good price... but wont be as much fun to OC as the 2.4 ;) ), I'm just undecided on RAM.
I'd like to run the system at 3.0Ghz CPU, 1.0Ghz, FSB, 250/500 DDR, but within the 2.7-2.9 memory voltage bracket.
No hope so far...
I'm considering Twinmoss PC3700 and Corsair XMS3200LL right now.

Also look at the kingston HyperX PC3500
Is a matched pair noticeably better than 2 sticks of the same RAM?
my hyperx won't go much beyond its rated speed at any timing level. Not sure what'll go higher though.
as allways , its a luck of draw...:( RMAŽd my twinmos 3700 stick(twinmos chip) because it sucked really hard.... (Now Im having a Corsair xms 3500 512 stick that reaches 439 cas 2. A bit more than "advertised" but had hoped for more with relaxed timings. It just wont go higher with cas 2,5 than 2,0....)

If you want the fastest then look no further than the OCZ PC3700EL. It may be a bit pricey but you do get what you pay for!

The above link shows the PC3500EL, not bad at DDR490, just imagine what the PC3700 can do...

Those are the modules that my IC7-G needs!
With 2 channel.
200FSb = 800Mhz.
PC3200 = 400Mhz
2XPC3200 = 800Mhz.
Or to give it some OC margin as well as 2 channel overhead,
PC3500 = 433Mhz
2xPC3500 = 866Mhz.
3500 and 3700 are somewhat too expensive at this point, I think.
