Hi, i have a laptop HD made by Hitachi : model DK23AA-12 (12.07gb) my laptop fan died and everything stopped working. =( i have some important files that i need to pull of this HD and some vacation pics that i really need. So i bought one of these little adapters ad pcconnection (here (http://www.pcconnection.com/scripts/productdetail.asp?product_id=240423) ) when the adapter came it didnt fit my laptop Harddrive, the connector didnt fit. So i was bummed and went on to search a few more sites and they all seem to have the same adapter. All listing this "adapter features 44-pin female to 40-pin male connectors, and a power feed" but i guess i need a 44-pin male to 40-pin male connecter, i attached a couple of pictures for you to see.

If anyone has done this please share your experience with it.

Thanks!!!

OK does the harddrive have a shell around it that you can take off? I assume it does. the problem will be you want to make sure you put the adapter on the right way. this probably means a trip to the drive manufacturers website for a look at the drive manual. You are also going to need a jumper so you can set the drive to the right position. I tried this once before but was unable to do it because of the jumper. I didn't have one small enough. I ended up sticking it in another laptop to get the info off:D Good Luck!!!

yea there's a casing around it and i just took it off now. I see the jumper pins etc... Im pretty sure that connector didnt fit. female going into a female plug didnt work.

here are pics with the casing off. in pic 2 you can see the jumper pins on the left.

It's no problem. The black female connector simply unplugs and then you can access the pins. There will be 4 pins, separated, with no connection, don't worry about those, they are cable select/master/slave settings. With no jumper on those, the drive will be a master on the channel.

Pin 1 will be towards the separated 4 pins, if you need to know orientation.

OK just pull the black thing off:D

Check the manual for the drive for the orientation because the adapter supplies power. and if you do not have a jumper then set it on the end of the ide cable.
