There I was.....I get home and see I have a package on the front porch...could it be my new Win FOP 32 cooler??? Yes it was.
I opened my case and removed the crappy fan/heatsink I had on there. I went to put my new one one there, but I was having a heck of a time putting the clips on. So, I nonchalantly decided to turn the clip around. I did and voila. I turned everything on and I hit the DEL to go to BIOS to look at temp......
65C!!!!!!!......
then, 75C!!!!!!
85!!!!!
95!!!!!!!
WTF!!!!!
I turned off the PC as fast as I could. Oh CRAP!!!! I thought.. I took off the heatsink/fan and inspected the processor....nothing noteable.
I looked at the heatsink more and realized that the fulcrum of the clip (the part where it actually puts pressure on the heatsink........the bend of the clip) is designed to be on only one way. It is designed to press down directly on top of the CPU (one arm is longer than the other). Anyway, I turned it around and managed to get it on. I turned on the PC and my temp was at 33C. Cool!!! I booted into windows and ran 3DMark2000. No lockups!!! Seems as though my processor is fine now with the exception of once after overclocking it (FSB 110) it froze. I went ahead and moved the FSB back to 100. Upon rebooting into windows I got many erroneous errors. I rebooted again and ever since then everything is fine.
Moral of the story: don't turn the clip around :)
Also, if it's running fine now, is it possible that I may have messed it up and may start screwing up in the future? Is that possible?
