ok... ive decided to start with C++ caues it seems to be a favorite language of the forum. I realize that this may not mean that much to me, but i figure that i'll be posting a lot of probs and questions once i start cause i learn really well by Q&A, and if i have 2 users who are reallly good with my language then i have a worse chance of getting people to help. This was also a suggested language from a few people, so my question is

does it matter what edition i get? I can get 2nd edition used for cheap, but the $80 one doesnt seem to appetizing just because of cost. i was wondering what the diff is in INFO on the inside. I realize that computers are a constantly evolving thing and that information that was at one time very current will be outdated in less than a year, and i dont wanna buy something and learn something that is obsolete. Plz hurry cause i only have about a day to decide if i want that edition... i'll buy used regaurdless prolly

PS - plz post comments also about language decision and nething u think would be helpful.. im here to learn ;)

i personally used the 3rd edition of the book and that was like 3 years ago(i think). getting the second edition would be safe. the new editions just fix mistakes from the old ones and sometimes change the order of some of the chapters. rarely do they add like entirely new chapters or large chunks of new info. i think getting the 2nd edition would be just fine.

Just get any edition or all and take back what you don't like.

Also I made the mistake of starting with C++. C++ is one of the harder launguges to learn, maybe you should give Visual Basic a shot.....

I have the fourth edition of the book. But I would agree with other people get whatever one you can afford, but if you can get a newer one it wouldnt hurt.

In my c++ class we use the third edition and it is alright although I would not start learning c++. If I can make a suggestion, I would start to learn something easy such as VB, Javascript, HTML, Qbasic, or Python. Then move up to something more advanced such as C++, Java, PHP, etc. I bought many books on C++ and I think it is one of those things that has to be taught be someone who knows what their doing. But you may be smarter than I, it is just my humble opinion.

I would like to learn C++ myself. I know JAVA, HTML, and some JAVAscript and a very little tad of C. Would learning C++ be a difficult task for me???? and what should I use to learn it and where can I find this information?
