Turned in a Gromacs this morning and got the outdated core thingy. New core date is May 5, 2003.ver 1.47. Reading all the script it seems to boost 3dnow. I am folding a new protein using that core, p909_vill_str0, 38 points. The strange thing is it is folding faster on my P4@2400 (6.8 min/frame) than on my 1700+@2080 (2600+)(6.8min/frame). This is a first for me. Folding the 33 pointers the XP was folding at least 3hrs faster or 6.75min/frame(XP) to 8.1min/frame(P4). Can I get a witness?:D

6 hours 45 minutes for a 33 pointer? That's pretty fast for 2.08ghz. My 2100+ @ 2468mhz only does them in around 9 hours at complete idle and about 9 hours 45 minutes with irc/forums.

That's minutes not hours. I'm referencing a frame not the whole wu. The 2080 does a 33 in 11.5 hours. The P4 takes 14+ hours.

After rereading your post I see the distinction. Man I really gotta stop staying up all night.

I could have explained that better but I'm up all night myself. That p909 is like folding two 18pointers and getting two extra points.

Yeah, I've got 2 going now. At idle yeah they take about the same time as 2 18 pointers. I still wish Stanford would give me more of the 10 pointers though.

Ok finally got them settled enough to get a comparison (the 2600+ is folding three instances) so i have to interpolate.

Xp 1700+@2600+ = 6.43min/frame

P41.8A@2400 = 6.83min/frame

That's about the closest I've seen a P4 get in a clock to clock comparison. The info in the script as the client boots up gives the impression that AMD will benefit from the improvements but the P4 improved tremendously over p537 (18 pointer)times. The remainder of the year is looking promising for folders with p4s.
