View Full Version : Duron: blue/green?
I noticed today that some duron chips are blue, some are green.
I thought these color differences only applied to 'birds.
I am assuming the blues are the ones to go for then ??

Not 100% sure I got this right... But as I understand it the "blue meanies" are made at a differen factory than the "greenies" The blue ones use copper the green ones use aluminum in the "construction" of the cpu. This is basically what I've read. BUT I've also heard that this may be a myth, 'cause supposedly the Durons are all made at one plant while the Athlons are made at another. I like to think that there is a difference bten the blue and green processors (mainly 'cause mine has the blue thermal coating)
Thanks Upptown.
Anyone else have any opinions/knowledge on this?

From what I've heard, the blue chips were tbirds which were made in dresden germany, using copper interconnects, so it overclocks better, while the green chips are made in austin texas using aluminum interconnects. durons I believe are only made in texas, while tbirds are made in both.

Yep, That's correct. The blue core processors were manufactured in Dresden, Germany. The green core processors are manufactured in Austin, Texas.

Can anyone point to any articles/reviews that are specific to the 1ghz Storm Chicken or just Storm Chicken's in general?
Thanks,

Sorry, In my above post I should have said any articles/reviews specific to the blue/green cores on T-Birds.
My question came as a result of:
http://hardocp.com/articles/amd/800mhz/index2.html
I have seen numerous blue durons for sale at the markets here in aus, but am still unsure as to which a more suited to o/c.
it "seems":
blue = german
green = u.s
and all durons alumin interconnects (unlike 'birds).
so it may just be down to which country has the best QA
no offense intended, but when i think _quality_ i tend to think kraut, not yank. ;)

Should have mentioned also that wether it's blue, green or brown, all durons have aluminum interconnects.
