i got that siren beep from my a7v when i fried my duron 650. try a different cpu, or take it back to where you got it and have them confirm that it works,

sounds like burnt processor, but is possible it could be mainboard. most likely processor.

sorry....been there...done that...and bought a t-shirt (whole damn wardrobe)!

In my experience, a dead processor generally doesn't cause the board to boot at all. This warning generally means something is not attached properly or your CPU is failing to operate (I guess it COULD be dead). Try making sure your heatsink is flush with the processor and that the processor is firmly in the socket. If you are using a copper shim you might want to try removing it and see if that helps (it might be preventing your CPU from booting).

This error can also happen when the board is having trouble booting. Just today a K7V (not the same board but similar) would not boot when I set the FSB to 115 and it gave me the "siren of death". Try clearing the BIOS using the BIOS clear jumper and see if that helps.

i would like to say that when i tried installing the damned orb, i had my bro gave me a hand and when pushing down, i heard a crack.. a pretty loud noticeable one.. i checked the cpu and the a7v.. both were find.. no cracks.. nothing!

so.. what is broken here?? cpu huh? i got the oem which has 20 days warranty.. i hope its covered.. its not cracked tho.. or maybe its a DOA since its a OEM

The crack would most likely be the heatsink snapping in place. When you crush the die of your Tbird, it's more of a grinding sound, like sand grinding together. I know from personal experience, lol.

the board? i tried putting the cpu in another a7v.. same problem.. then i tried putting it in a gigabyte 7zx or something and no post no activity--nothing.. its the processor right? i got crucial ram so there shouldnt be any incompatibilities.

Check your graphics card, happened to me once. The damn thing makes a long beep then a short beep but everything seems to be in place so what I did was took out the graphics card and slid it back in rocking it gently back and fourth. Turned on the power and presto it works, give that a shot.

the no video beeps are totally different than the beeps perry929 are talking about. the ambulance sounding beeps are what you get for no cpu.

thanks.. now i feel assured that the cpu is indeed dead.. now im pondering how cpu dies.. does cpus die from pressure even though it didnt crack? from bad grounding?? any experiences??
