has newegg been shipping out good stepping on this chip. since it's only 75 buck now, i think i might just grab 1.

btw, the 2100+ from excal has 384k cache, is it a new kinna chip? would it be able to run on normal socket a board?

I believe that's L1 & L2 combined.

It's a regular ole 2100

AthlonXPs have 128kB of L1 cache and 256kB or 512kB of L2 cache. Some places quote the cache as simply the L2 cache, some quote the combined total.

The Palominos, Thoroughbred A and B CPUs have 256kB of L2 cache, the Bartons have 512kB (640kB total).

Hey,

what 2100+ stepping makes the best OC'er? I have heard the 1.5v gives better results than the 1.6v. How do you tell the diff?

I am looking to get one from excaliberpc.com. What should i look for?

thanks,
Gage

See here for the difference between 1.5V and 1.6V:

And as for what the best OCer is, I'm not sure.

Look for the stepping code, the first five digits of the second line of the black sticker on the CPU.

If it ends in B, then you have a Thoroughbred B. If an A, its a Thoroughbred A. Bs will generally do better than As.

AFAIK, the first letter also makes a difference. If it begins with A then its better than one beginning with J. I have two JUIHB XP1700+s which do 1.73GHz (266Mhz OC) with ease. My friend has an AUIHB XP2400+ which does 2.41GHz easily (410Mhz OC).

Newegg XP2100 'B' arrived today.

So far 2.5GHz (15 X 166 on Asus A7N8X) @ 1.85v with ordinary cooling.
